City of Radford Electoral Board Minutes of Public Meeting October 9, 2023 Chairwoman Ann Craig called the meeting of the City of Radford Electoral Board to order at 3:30 p.m. on October 9, 2023, in the office of the General Registrar located at 619 2nd Street, Room 143, Radford, Virginia. Present were Chairwoman Craig, Vice Chairman Guy Wohlford, and Secretary Carol Colby, constituting a quorum, as well as General Registrar Lindsey Williams. Assignment of Officers of Election The Board and Mrs. Williams discussed the Officers of Election (OEs) for the November 7, 2023 election. Drawing on nominations from party chairs and OEs who had served in previous elections, the Board assigned OEs for each of the polling places, subject to their acceptance. Vice Chairman Wohlford moved to accept the list of OE assignments, Secretary Colby seconded, and the motion passed. Report of General Registrar Mrs. Williams and the Board discussed training for the OEs and precinct chiefs and assistant chiefs. Mrs. Williams reported on pollbook training materials she had acquired from neighboring jurisdictions’ General Registrars. She will conduct the training on the new pollbooks. The Board members will welcome OEs, conduct the remainder of the training session, and answer questions. Mrs. Williams and the Board discussed operational preparations for election day. Mrs. Williams stated that she and Assistant Registrar Janet Parrish will both be out of the office on December 1. She and the Board discussed her hiring two part-time deputy registrars, possibly drawing from the approved OEs, to work on an emergency basis. Mrs. Williams stated that the canvass for the November election will conclude on November 13, and that early voting for the March primaries will begin on January 19. The meeting was adjourned at 5:12 p.m. The Board will next meet on Monday, October 23 at 3:30 p.m. in the General Registrar’s office.
