Minutes of Keep Richwood Beautiful Commission Special Meeting of Saturday, May 11, 2019 BE IT KNOWN THAT, a Special Workshop Meeting of the Keep Richwood Beautiful Commission of City of Richwood was held Saturday, May 11, 2019, beginning at 11:00 AM in the Richwood City Hall, 1800 N. Brazosport Blvd. Richwood, Texas. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 11:07 a.m. ROLL CALL OF MEMBERS Janet Jackson-Ellis - Chair Brittany Figaro - Vice Chair Garry Ellis Audrey Johnson Blix Messick Jeanette Messick Kimberly Mayer Denise Green – KRB Director Others present: Giani Cantu, City Secretary WORKSHOP DISCUSS AND SET VISION AND MISSION STATEMENTS Ms. Cantu presented City Council’s mission and vision statements to the board and asked them to consider Council’s vision as they go through this planning session. The commission discussed and set the following mission and vision statements and motto: MISSION STATEMENT To engage and embolden our residents to pursue a vibrant and appealing community through environmental stewardship VISION STATEMENT To make Richwood the cleanest, most visually aesthetic little city in Texas. MOTTO Teach them to Care FISCAL YEAR 2018-2019 STRATEGIC PLAN AND BUDGET GOALS Ms. Cantu presented the Strategic goals for Parks and Beautification as set in City Council’s Strategic Plan. The commission discussed and set the following strategic goals for the next five years: CORE VALUES • Empower our residents through education and participation • Supporting partnerships with local businesses and groups • Leading the City by serving our community through volunteer services • Promote positive quality of life by beautifying and improving our parks STRATEGIC GOALS • Create a Parks Master Plan o Upgrade existing and add Playground Equipment - Kim o Upgrade park furniture - Kim o Resurfacing walking trails o Add or update lighting - Blix o Dog Park - Brittany • Maintain a high level of aesthetic standards o Trees o Flowers o Color o Metal Art o Recycling Bins • Community Outreach o Summer Camp - Denise o Reading at Schools - Kim o Bike Rodeo o 5k – Fun Run • Encourage Recycling o Reusable shopping bags o Reusable tumbler o Filtering Equip (ex. Brita Pitcher) o Recycling Bins at City Facilities o Recycling What to and What not • Update Community Center o New paint o New landscaping o New Kitchen o New bathrooms o Possible Awning/porch DISCUSSION AND ACTION ITEMS Discussion and action on FY 2019-2020 Proposed Budget The commission discussed how with added vision and goals, comes the need for more funding. Ms. Cantu stated options are to increase funding by apartment complexes to include donations per unit and/or request additional funding from General Fund. Currently apartments only pay $1.00 per month donation regardless of number of units and General Fund contributes only $1,000 to Beautification, along with the $7,000 for Park & Recreation events.
