The Keep Richwood Beautiful Commission called Meeting of April 6,
2021
BE IT KNOWN THAT, a Keep Richwood Beautiful Commission of City of Richwood was held
April 6, 2021, beginning at 5:30 PM PM in the Richwood City Hall, located at 1800 Brazosport
Blvd. N, Richwood, Texas 77531.
I. CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 5:33 p.m.
II. ROLL CALL OF MEMBERS
Brittany Figaro: Present

Janet Jackson-Ellis: Present
Audrey Johnson: Present
Tara Riley: Present, arrived at 5:57 p.m.
Becky Thompson: Present

Also in attendance: Kimberly Mayer, Executive Director; Melissa Strawn, Council Liaison;
Kirsten Garcia, City Secretary
III. WORKSHOP
A. Service Hour Log Workshop
IV. PUBLIC COMMENTS
Leslie Klug - addressed the committee regarding seeing the City staff and Council members
as human and approachable and not so formal. Ideas she has to be interactive is to have a
dunking booth or something like that for events to make the staff being apart of the fun
festivities. Have staff at events that can speak to the public events and can help answer
questions for residents.
William Yearsin - addressed the committee and stated that he's been paying attention to the
committees and that KRB does more than they are intended to. He added that he would love
to help out more if possible. He also added comments regarding the garden and how well its
going. He added the clean ups are great, and would love to help get more volunteers out
there. He added that clean ups on 2004 is much needed, there is a lot of trash there. He added
the neighborhood streets need attention also.

V. CONSENT AGENDA
A. Approval of Minutes
1. Regular meeting held February 2, 2021

Motion to approve minutes with amendment to attendance. This motion, made by
Becky Thompson and seconded by Lindsie Yearsin, Passed.

VI. REPORT ON RECENT EVENTS
A. KTB Regional Training, March 31
Kimberly reported on the recent training, stated that the committee can partner with
Keep Pearland Beautiful for recycling, and she was able to present on behalf of
Richwood and the community garden.
B. Easter
Kimberly reported that Easter was kind of slow, and there were left over eggs. She
added that Lindsie took eggs to Polk Elementary. All students were able to receive eggs.
Hopefully next year we are in person and can do it closer to Easter.
VII. UPCOMING EVENTS
A. Earth Day, April 17
Brittany reported that she had some reusable bags donated for earth day.
Kimberly reported some ideas she had to do at earth day - April 17 10-12 at Ellis park
- Seed bombs
- Birdfeeder craft
- Recycling boxes
- Recycling challenge
- Snow cones or food truck
- Possibly BB's mobile barn yard
Brittany proposed setting the budget at $600
Discussion held on volunteers.
Motion to set budget for $600 for earth. This motion, made by Audrey Johnson and
seconded by Janet Jackson-Ellis, Passed.

B. Don't Mess with Texas Trash Off, April 10
Kimberly reported that she has ordered supplies - she requested everyone meet at city
hall at 9:30am to set up, and she will bring breakfast.
She added that we need someone to pull the trailer that holds all the of the trash bags.
The plan is to start at city hall and work towards FM 2004, she added Keep Texas

Beautiful would like a photo of the most interesting item found in the cleanup.
C. May Parks Clean Up, May 8
Kimberly reported Public Works will be power washing ahead of time, she would like to
add mulch, and replace plants that were damaged in the freeze.
Kimberly reported she thinks a budget of $425 would work. Brittany recommended the
committee to raise the budget to $500.
Motion to approve budget of $500. This motion, made by Janet Jackson-Ellis and
seconded by Becky Thompson, Passed.

D. Yard of the Month
Brittany stated she has the addresses for Yard of the Month at home, she will bring them
Saturday and have it narrowed to pick.
She added that she would like to start giving a certificate to the winners of Yard of the
Month.
VIII. DISCUSSION AND ACTION ITEMS
A. Discussion and action regarding allocation of donations recieved from the Richwood
Farmer's Market.
Lindsie recused herself since she is a private party running the farmer's market.
Kimberly presented information and ideas for use of funds.
Brittany stated she likes the idea of green house and the pop-up parks with games.
Melissa stated at a previous school they did an environmental craft with reminders to
conserve energy.
Consensus of the committee is to focus on community garden and look into getting a
greenhouse.
Motion to focus funds from farmers market to greenhouse and pop up park
attributes. This motion, made by Janet Jackson-Ellis and seconded by Becky
Thompson, Passed.

B. Discuss and consider reusable water bottles.
Brittany presented information regarding reusable water bottles. She stated she will get
prices and bring it back to a future meeting.

C. Discuss and consider implementing an Adopt-a-Senior Program.
Brittany presented information on an adopt-a-senior program.
Brittany stated she and Kimberly will get with the City about starting the program.
IX. FINANCIAL REPORT
Kimberly reported the committee's financials.
X. EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Kimberly reported she is still working on the green bag grant, she met with Clif at the garden
with how Public Works will help with the drip irrigation. Will need volunteers to work on it
at some point.
Another project is the rainwater barrels, attaching gutter to the shed to collect more water.
Cut flowers - Kimberly has an idea about growing cut flowers at the garden. She would like
the committee to grow flowers, they attract pollinators and cut them to sell at the market.
In the garden now: tomatoes and peppers, broccoli, potatoes, onions. She has done
companion planting to keep the insects away.
All raised beds are accounted for — they are either planted or adopted by someone.
Kimberly added that she judged a GCAA category, and it was a great help to see other cities
and how they write it. She also applied to be a judge for beautify Texas awards.
She asked if the committee wanted to reschedule the waterways clean up.
She is also looking into ways to bring in revenue, possibly kids craft day.
