Minutes of the Keep Richwood Beautiful Commission The Keep Richwood Beautiful Commission called Meeting of May 4, 2021 BE IT KNOWN THAT, a Keep Richwood Beautiful Commission of City of Richwood was held May 4, 2021, beginning at 6:00 PM PM in the Richwood City Hall, located at 1800 Brazosport Blvd. N, Richwood, Texas 77531. I. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 6:02 p.m. II. ROLL CALL OF MEMBERS Brittany Figaro: Present Sonia Foger: Present Janet Jackson-Ellis: Present Audrey Johnson: Present Tara Riley: Absent Becky Thompson: Present Lindsie Yearsin: Absent Also present: Kimberly Mayer, Executive Director; Kirsten Garcia, City Secretary III. PUBLIC COMMENTS There was no public comment. IV. REPORT ON RECENT EVENTS A. Earth Day, April 17 Kimberly reported there were: 6 adult volunteers 29 children served Discussion held on turn out compared to last year and goals for next year. Discussion held on what other committees did to celebrate. Discussion held on ideas for next year. B. Don't Mess with Texas Trash Off, April 10 Brittany stated she felt the turn-out was great, and she was impressed with the lack of trash found on 288. 1 Discussion held on supplies needed for future clean-ups. V. UPCOMING EVENTS A. May Parks Clean Up, May 8 Meeting at Bobby Ford Park at 9:45 am Kimberly reported that Public Works has already power washed the signs and removed the dead trees and worked on the play scapes. B. Yard of the Month Audrey will select this month's yard of the month. VI. DISCUSSION AND ACTION ITEMS A. Discuss and consider date to reschedule the Waterways Clean Up Brittany suggested combining the waterways clean up with hurricane preparedness. June 12, from 8-10am Kim stated she would get with the staff, plan to meet at City Hall. Discussion held on promo items and how to engage the community. B. Discuss and consider implementing a Grow Bag Program. Kimberly stated she hasn't had time to fully research but will bring this back at another meeting. C. Discuss and consider changing to non-profit 501(c)3 status. Kimberly reported the details to becoming 501c3 - costs, time and reasoning why. She requested committee just discuss and save action for next month. Discussion held on how it would affect the committees operations. Discussion held on other organizations that could possibly assist in the process. D. Discuss and consider ideas for local school outreach to STEM programs. E. Discuss and consider possible homeschool outreach. F. Discuss and consider ideas for crafts for kids. Brittany presented items D, E, & F all together - advised members to reach out to schools with stem projects - it helps the schools with their learning plans. She presented an idea of possibly hosting a camp for kids or videos during the month of a member ocmplteing a craft that the kids can then complete on their own at home. She added that we should focus on programs that are geared towards children - espeically when the GCAA focuses alot on youth enrichment. 2 VII. FINANCIAL REPORT Audrey presented the financial report. VIII. EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR'S REPORT Kimberly reported on: Scenic City update GCAA, won 2nd place Budget Workshop, May 21, 10 am KTB Conference, coming up. June 29-31 Community Garden update - 74.5 lb veg donated, a&m agrilife extension donated 27 tomato and pepper plants, 22 bag fertilizer donated Memorial Day May 31 - flags on May 27 meet at 8:30 am Green bag grant - meeting with Clif for final run through of where irrigation will be IX. ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND ITEMS OF COMMUNITY INTEREST No report. X. SET NEXT MEETING DATE June 1, 2021 XI. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS Water bottles Discussion on plants the died during the freeze City wide Garage sale Pop up park days Adopt a spot Grow bag program Yard of the month Summer workshop City sign clean up XII.
