Rome-Floyd Board of Adjustments Minutes Location: City Hall Commission Chambers Date: Thursday, April 18, 2024 Time: 2:30 PM PLEASE REFER TO THE VIDEO RECORDING FOR FULL DETAIL OF THE MEETING CALL TO ORDER Meeting convened: 2:31 p.m. led by Chair Clonts. Approval of Minutes from March 2024 Meeting Harris made a motion to approve the March 2024 minutes, which was seconded by Brown. The motion passed by common consent. Approval/Modification of Agenda There were no modifications to the agenda. Harris made a motion to approve the agenda, which was seconded by Brown. The motion passed by common consent. ROME/FLOYD ZONING VARIANCE APPLICATIONS: BOA24-04-01, for the property at 755 Braves Blvd., Rome, GA 30161, Floyd County Tax Parcel J12Y003B, being zoned Community Commercial (C-C), request to eliminate the 100-foot setback from any property lines, requests to be able to have music or amplified sound within 200 feet of a residence, requests to remove the 200-foot setback from any property line, requests to remove the 500’ from residence restriction, requests to reduce the five-foot tall fence requirement to four-feet. Associate Planner Harris presented the application, staff report, and staff recommendation. Chair Clonts opened the public hearing. Taylor Thiessen was present to speak in favor of the application and to answer any questions. David Lang was also present in support as this would showcase other events besides ball games that can be held there. No one was present to speak in opposition. 1 Chair Clonts closed the public hearing and opened the floor for discussion amongst the voting members. Clonts: Will this be an annual event and will it take place in the spring? Taylor Thiessen: Yes, hopefully so. Lignell: Is the discount to apartment residence something you plan to definitely do? Taylor Thiessen: Yes, we can provide to Apartment Manager for the discounts and are happy to do so. Lignell made a motion to approve, which was seconded by Harris. The motion passed 5-0. MEMBER MEMBER MEMBER M - Motion S – Second AB – Abstained Y Cameron Abney Y David Clonts Jarrod Johnson Y Frank Brown S Johnathan Harris M Wendy Lignell BOA24-04-03, for the property at 304 Dodd Blvd. SE (0 Dodd Blvd. as listed on the Parcel Viewer), Rome, GA 30161, Floyd County Tax Parcel J15W005, being zoned Light Industrial (L-I), requests a wall mounted sign that is 22-feet wide and 4-feet tall, on a wall that does not face the public right-of-way. Associate Planner Harris presented the application, staff report, and staff recommendation. Chair Clonts opened the public hearing. Daniel Mulkey and Chuck Sybert were present to speak in favor of the application and to answer any questions. Chuck Sybert noted that this would be the best location for the sign. No one was present to speak in opposition. Chair Clonts closed the public hearing and opened the floor for discussion amongst the voting members. Brown made a motion to approve, which was seconded by Abney. The motion passed 5-0.
