BRICE’s NOTES:
Townsend – Asked about windows and soffits
Clonts – Had people call him about this location, Different mortar joints across the entire property, why paint over mortar repair?
Ayers – Make everything uniform & brand new; Westward facing wall receives all weather, Sherwin Williams Paint recommendation &
was recommended Loxon.
Pictures submitted by Ayers to record
Dunay – Motion
Maloney – Seconded
Common Consent
Chair Dunay closed the public hearing and opened it up for commission comments.
Doss – Is removable paint not possible?
Clonts – Stand risk of doing damage to existing brick. Are they primed and top coated?
Clonts recognized Randy McGill
McGill – Any blasting will damage integrity of brick
Townsend – Could it be chemically wiped?
McGill – Would be highly troublesome
Clonts – Will not get it all out
McGill – This brick is soft; most brick used now is hollow
Griffin – As a reminder…You cannot sand blast or water blast. Staff has included Preservation Brief from NPS on paint removal.
Dunay – Could rest of building be done with approved paint?
Clonts – McGill, can you contribute?
McGill – Has been used all throughout the South
Dunay – What type can we use?
Griffin – Lyme, Mineral, Wheat-based paint
Hager – No question
Griffin – Could be tabled to next month for more information
Clonts – One solution, recommend approved paint on sides and replace as it goes. Hand paint removal is difficult. Applicant must supply
paint information if available and you must meet those Standards. At some point, brick does get disheveled.
Clonts – Building was not painted properly in Atlanta. Current expert witness in the Case in Atlanta
McGill – Something from Sherwin Williams that was approved.
Blalock – Mixed-Matched brick can tell a story of the house.
Maloney left 3:14pm
Clonts –need to do the best job we can. This needs to be done correctly.
Martin – Who will manage enforcing? Sherwin Williams as a Peer Review?
Randy – At least you can get a Peer Reviewed professional from Sherwin Williams
Clonts– It would be nice to know what products you want to use or have used.
Martin – Who monitors? How is it enforced? Who monitors future maintenance?
Clonts – Provide documentation of materials
McGill – Let Sherwin Williams do peer review
Griffin – As a reminder…You can move to next month and Find Incomplete
Dunay – Motion?
Clonts – Motion to accept as proposed using materials certified by Sherwin Williams & guidelines, Information about materials
must be supplied to staff before stop-work order is lifted and COA granted.
