Under the Sexton’s Report, Mr. Kirk reported there were 33 funerals in March
and in April we have had 12 thru today’s meeting and 4 scheduled to the end of the week.
The next item was the update on the meeting of the Buildings and Lands committee.
Mr. Kirk stated he and Ms. Chance attended the meeting. The request to increase cremain
opening/closing by $100 was discussed. The committee voted to increase the opening and
closing by $50. The increase will begin in July 2013. It will go up the same time as the
casket opening/closing which increase $50 also. Mr. Perry stated he wanted to look for
funding to put in a columbarium.
The next item Mr. Kirk advised the Board that he and the Cemetery Superintendent,
Mr. Esquivel, planned to go out to the City’s nursery, but, the funeral schedule has been
full and they have not yet been able to.
Mr. Perry then asked for a further discussion on the chains at the Circle. He was
concerned that the general public was still calling him asking why the chains were up
even though the east gate was closed. Mr. Kirk stated he wanted to keep the chains up
because the road thru the Circle was not wide enough for 2 cars to go thru. Mrs. Patterson
then stated she had been out to the cemetery and did measurements of the roads to see
how wide they actually were. A lengthy discussion was held and Mr. Kirk stated the
chains would come down tomorrow morning. He was asked to monitor whether traffic
increased and let the Board know at the next meeting.
