building. Commissioners present were: Tom Dunlap, Morgan Nelson, Cindy Willard, Bob
McCrea, Lynne Ybarra and City Councilor Dusty Huckabee. Absent Commissioners were Julie
Adams, Bonnie Montgomery, and Charlie Phillips. Lynne welcomed the eight community

with Tom Dunlap making the motion and Cindy Willard seconding it.
New Business: Tom Dunlap announced that this Friday night, April 19th, would be the
last in his mini-series on Elder Law issues. He also handed out a flyer for La Puerta Abierta
Homeless Clinic. More doctors are volunteering their services. They take appointments for the
third Wednesday of the month. Clinic hours are from 1:30 to 5:00 pm.
Old Business: Tom Dunlap stated that since there had been no further information
forthcoming from New Mexico/West Texas Coaches that the issue of scheduled bus/van travel
to Albuquerque was a dead issue at this time.
Program: Mary Kopcik, Mission Arch Care Center Administrator, spoke to the
Commission about their new owners, Genesis Healthcare Inc. She distributed a copy of the
company’s web site homepage. Genesis is not publically traded. Some of the changes being
instituted since their purchase of the facility are establishing a restraint free environment,
facilitating wound care by purchasing specialty mattresses, approving use of more local
vendors, and improving employee benefits.
Community Comments Community food banks were discussed as well as nursing home
admission criteria.
Commissioners’’ Comments: The tentative schedule and locations of future meetings
was discussed. To date the newspaper has had to omit the notice of ADA assistance available
at our meetings when they have posted of the monthly notices of the meetings.
Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 4:15 PM. The May 15th meeting will be
held in the Historical Society Archives Building.
Respectfully Submitted:
