CITY OF ROSWELL – COMMISSION ON AGING 1105 Kachina Dr., Roswell, NM 88201 Councilor: Dusty Huckabee Commissioners: Commissioners: Morgan Nelson Julie Adams Charlie Phillips, Recorder Tom Dunlap, Vice Chair Cindy Willard Bob McCrea Lynne Ybarra, Chair Bonnie Montgomery John Taylor, Ex Officio MINUTES April 17, 2013 Chairperson Lynne Ybarra called the meeting to order at 3:10 PM at the Senior Circle building. Commissioners present were: Tom Dunlap, Morgan Nelson, Cindy Willard, Bob McCrea, Lynne Ybarra and City Councilor Dusty Huckabee. Absent Commissioners were Julie Adams, Bonnie Montgomery, and Charlie Phillips. Lynne welcomed the eight community members present. Approval of Minutes: Minutes of the February 20th meeting were unanimously approved with Tom Dunlap making the motion and Cindy Willard seconding it. New Business: Tom Dunlap announced that this Friday night, April 19th, would be the last in his mini-series on Elder Law issues. He also handed out a flyer for La Puerta Abierta Homeless Clinic. More doctors are volunteering their services. They take appointments for the third Wednesday of the month. Clinic hours are from 1:30 to 5:00 pm. Old Business: Tom Dunlap stated that since there had been no further information forthcoming from New Mexico/West Texas Coaches that the issue of scheduled bus/van travel to Albuquerque was a dead issue at this time. Program: Mary Kopcik, Mission Arch Care Center Administrator, spoke to the Commission about their new owners, Genesis Healthcare Inc. She distributed a copy of the company’s web site homepage. Genesis is not publically traded. Some of the changes being instituted since their purchase of the facility are establishing a restraint free environment, facilitating wound care by purchasing specialty mattresses, approving use of more local vendors, and improving employee benefits. Community Comments Community food banks were discussed as well as nursing home admission criteria. Commissioners’’ Comments: The tentative schedule and locations of future meetings was discussed. To date the newspaper has had to omit the notice of ADA assistance available at our meetings when they have posted of the monthly notices of the meetings. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 4:15 PM. The May 15th meeting will be held in the Historical Society Archives Building. Respectfully Submitted: Lynne Ybarra Recorder
