2. Discussion Board Member Candidate-Jack Ferguson
Jack Ferguson mentioned to the board that one of the candidates to fill the Secretary position is Vice
President of Operations at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home and Crematory. Another candidate
mentioned was Gabriel Casaus manager at Lagrone Funeral Chapel. Final decision will be made by the
mayor, but all board members agreed that both candidates would be a good fit for the board.
3. Sexton’s Report-Ruben Esquivel
Ruben Esquivel reported that there had been a total of 47 services in the month of February. It has
been the largest amount of services in at least the past ten years.
4. Bookkeeper’s Report- Daisy Diaz
Daisy Diaz stated that February 2017 has been the highest in revenue also in the past ten years. With a
total of 3 transfers, 6 payoffs, 8 lot sales, and 2 new contracts.
5. Decoration Guidelines-Ruben Esquivel
Ruben Esquivel would like ideas to set a time period in the decoration policies in which it would allow
any holiday decorations to be allowed for only a certain period of time. Doing so would alleviate the
amount of decorations placed, and neatness of the cemetery. The public would have to be informed of
such changes either by the newspaper, social media, and/or news release informing the public of such
decoration changes.
6. Discussion on Cemetery Roads- Ruben Esquivel
Ruben Esquivel stated the city will use $50,000.00, and millings given by the state to pave some new
roads. The street department will be doing the road work, and has already begun leveling the area
where the new roads will be including some roads in between.
7. Discussion on Parking at the General Douglas McBride Veteran’s Cemetery- Ruben Esquivel
Ruben Esquivel mentioned he would like some ideas on how to make parking for the handicap public
attending a veteran service more convenient. The amount of vehicles allowed in the service area is
limited to the coach and immediate family. One idea was to try a drop off and pick up method meaning
vehicles that have handicap people would be allowed to drop off at the service area before the service
and picked up after. Another idea for the handicap that drive themselves would be to have assigned
handicap parking on the West and East side of the entrance designated only for handicapped public. Mr.
Esquivel stated he would look more into these ideas.
