Minutes of the Cemetery Board Meeting Tuesday, September 19, 2017 REGULAR MEETING 4:00 P.M Committee Member Present: Jack Ferguson, President Jim Bloodhart, Vice President Jeremy Hurley, Secretary Jake Trujillo, Member Committee Members Absent: Gabriel Casaus, Member Staff Present: Ruben Esquivel, Cemetery Superintendent Daisy Diaz, Cemetery Administrative Assistant Jim Burress, Parks and Recreation Director Others Present: Juan Oropesa, Councilor Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 4:08 p.m. by President, Jack Ferguson. Committee members Trujillo, Bloodhart, and Hurley, were present. Approval of Agenda Mr. Trujillo moved to approve the agenda with the appropriate changes adding guest speaker Jim Burress under other business Mr. Hurley was the second. A voice vote was unanimous and the motion carried, the September 19, 2017 agenda was approved. Approval of Minutes Mr. Trujillo made a motion, seconded by Mr. Hurley, to approve the minutes of the August 15, 2017 meeting. A voice vote was unanimous and the motion carried. Action Items None Non-Action Items 2. Sexton’s Report- Superintendent Ruben Esquivel reported 30 burials for the month of August including a disinterment of cremains at South Park Cemetery. As of September 19, 2017 a total of 25 services had been conducted. 3. Bookkeeper’s Report- Cemetery Administrative Assistant Daisy Diaz reported 1 transfers of property, 3 pay offs, 1 new contract and 2 lot sales for August. As of September 19, 2017 a total of 1 transfer of property, and 3 pay offs. 4. Cemetery Tour- Ruben Esquivel talked about Nancy Williams with KAPS interest to conduct a cemetery tour again this year. Mr. Esquivel was seeking the boards input and approval for an appropriate day to have the cemetery tours. Board members agreed that November 4, 2017 would be a good day with the only change that the start time be earlier during the day. Mr. Esquivel announced he would inform Mrs. Williams about what the board had decided. 5. Discussion of new employees- Mr. Esquivel discussed that South Park Cemetery was able to obtain two new full-time employees. Now making it a crew of six full-time employees. Next step would be to look into obtaining two temporary contract services employees to serve as help for the full-time crew. The two new full-time employees are Fabian Quintero and Higinio Segovia who have been part of the cemetery staff for about four years working as temporary employees. Other Business Mr. Jim Burress Parks and Recreation Director expressed his interest in the cemetery’s future plans. Mr. Burress requested the board members consideration on the cemetery acquiring some columbaria walls in the near future. Board members present agreed to take the proposal into consideration and would be discussed again at the next board meeting.
