Minutes of the Cemetery Board Meeting Tuesday, April 17, 2018 REGULAR MEETING 4:00 P.M Committee Member Present: Jack Ferguson, President Jim Bloodhart, Vice President Gabriel Casaus, Member Juan Oropesa, Liaison Committee Members Absent: Jeremy Hurley, Secretary Jake Trujillo, Member Staff Present: Ruben Esquivel, Cemetery Superintendent Daisy Diaz, Cemetery Administrative Assistant Others Present: Frank Sosa, American Legion Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 4:05 p.m. by President, Jack Ferguson. Committee members present Bloodhart, and Casaus. Approval of Agenda Mr. Bloodhart moved to approve the agenda as presented. Mr. Casaus was the second. A voice vote was unanimous and the motion carried, the April 17, 2018 agenda was approved. Approval of Minutes Mr. Casaus made a motion, seconded by Mr. Bloodhart to approve the minutes of the March 20, 2018 meeting. A voice vote was unanimous and the motion carried. Action 2. Discussion and Voting on Architect Contract- No Quorum. Voting did not take place. Action item will be moved to next meeting. Non-Action Items 3. Sexton’s Report- Superintendent Ruben Esquivel reported a total of 31 burials for March. As of April 17 a total of 21 burial services have been conducted at South Park Cemetery and General Douglas McBride Veteran’s Cemetery. 4. Bookkeeper’s Report- Cemetery Administrative Assistant Daisy Diaz reported 1 pay off and 3 lot sale for March, and as of April 17 a total of 1 contract, and 2 pay offs. 5. Discussion on Board Application- Mr. Esquivel stated no applications have been submitted and position remains vacant. Mr. Esquivel recommended that current board members let others know of vacant position and to apply if interested. Application is available online on the city website and must be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office. 6. Discussion on upcoming Cemetery Workshop- Mr. Esquivel talked about planning an informational workshop to talk about what takes place at South Park Cemetery everything from how the grounds are maintained, scheduling services, holding services, memorials, and just basic information on how things are done. Board members recommended June 19, 2018 as a good date for the workshop. Public Comments Liaison Mr. Oropesa commented he had spoken to the city manager of their being a possibility of the cemetery becoming an entity or enterprise of its own instead of being part of another department. Adjourn The meeting was adjourned at 4:50 p.m. Next Meeting Date Next meeting to be held May 15, 2018 at 4:00 p.m.
