Minutes of the Cemetery Board Meeting Tuesday, August 21, 2018 REGULAR MEETING 4:00 P.M Committee Member Present: Jack Ferguson, President Jim Bloodhart, Vice President Jeremy Hurley, Secretary Gabriel Casaus, Member Jake Trujillo, Member Juan Oropesa, Liaison Committee Members Absent: Gabriel Casaus, Member Staff Present: Ruben Esquivel, Cemetery Superintendent Daisy Diaz, Administrative Assistant Others Present: Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 4:05 p.m. by President, Jack Ferguson. Committee members present Bloodhart, Hurley, and Trujillo. Approval of Agenda Mr. Trujillo moved to approve the agenda as presented. Mr. Bloodhart was the second. A voice vote was unanimous and the motion carried, the August 21, 2018 agenda was approved. Approval of Minutes Mr. Trujillo made a motion, seconded by Mr. Bloodhart to approve the minutes of the July 17, 2018 meeting. A voice vote was unanimous and the motion carried. Action NONE Non-Action Items 2. Sexton’s Report- Superintendent Ruben Esquivel reported a total of 24 burials for July. As of August 21, 2018 a total of 20 burial services have been conducted at South Park Cemetery and General Douglas McBride Veteran’s Cemetery. 3. Bookkeeper’s Report- Mrs. Diaz reported a revenue of $20,000.87 for July with no additional activity. Activity as of August 21 was 2 transfers and 3 lot sales. 4. Cemetery Complaints- Cemetery Superintendent Mr. Esquivel explained about some ongoing complaints about the condition of the cemetery. Mr. Esquivel stated that a lot of factors are taking place in the current conditions of the cemetery some being personnel, a sprinkler system that cannot keep up with the high temperatures, irrigation problems, equipment issues and just being able to keep up with the maintenance of 93 blocks that are currently in use while servicing funerals. 5. Placement of Benches at General Douglas McBride Veteran’s Cemetery- Mr. Hurley announced that Anderson Bethany Funeral Home would be providing 4 granite benches for General Douglas McBride Veteran’s Cemetery. Benches would be coming from El Paso, Texas and once delivered to South Park Cemetery staff will install the benches in between the columbaria. Mr. Esquivel stated the placement of the benches would take place after the growing season. Public Comments Mr. Oropesa stated he had spoken to the City Attorney regarding the changes in fees that had been spoken of in the previous meeting. After speaking to the City Attorney the attorney had stated that it would be possible to set a fee for cancellation and rescheduling of a funeral service, but in the opinion of the attorney a fee for transferring property was not recommended. Adjourn The meeting was adjourned at 4:50 p.m. Next Meeting Date Next meeting to be held September 25, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Workshop will take place instead of the meeting.
