Minutes of the Cemetery Board Meeting
Tuesday, May 18, 2021
REGULAR MEETING 4:00 P.M

Call to Order
President, Jack Ferguson, called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. Committee members present Hurley,
Bloodhart, and Fulkerson.
Approval of Agenda
Mr. Hurley moved to approve the agenda as presented. Mr. Bloodhart seconded. A voice vote was
unanimous and the motion carried, the May 18, 2021 agenda was approved.
Approval of Minutes
Mr. Bloodhart made a motion, seconded by Mr. Hurley to approve the minutes of the April 20, 2021
meeting. A voice vote was unanimous and the motion carried.
Non-Action Items
2. Sexton’s Report-
Superintendent Ruben Esquivel reported 33 services for April for both South Park Cemetery and General
Douglas McBride Veteran’s Cemetery. As of May 18, 2021, 12 funerals had taken place. Mr. Esquivel
stated that the staff would be working overtime in the next few weeks to prepare for Memorial Day.
Staff would be working Saturday’s and part of Sundays. Mr. Esquivel announced that a grounds
maintenance position is currently open and would start interviews soon.
3. Bookkeeper’s Report-
Mrs. Diaz reported 2 transfers, 2 lot sales, and 4 new contracts for April. As of May 18, 2021, totals were
1 transfers, 7 lot sales, and 1 new contract.
4. Monument Placement-
Dr. Reynaldo Martinez long time resident of Roswell presented a proposal for a monument placement in
the baby land section of the public burials. The memorial consists of a life size angel and some benches.
The monument placement would be a community effort along with the help of the Eagle Scouts. Victoria
Arnett a scout would be helping along with the help of some mentors and other eagle scouts would be
raising money for the project.
5. Memorial Day Celebration-
Mr. Hurley announced that this year the Chaves County Veterans Association would organize the
Memorial Day celebration. The celebration will take place at the General Douglas Mc Bride Veterans
Cemetery on May 31, 2021 at 10 a.m.
