1105 Kachina Dr., Roswell, NM 88201
MEETING MINUTES [DRAFT]
April 16, 2014
The meeting was called to order at 3:05 p.m., Mission Arch, by Chair Lynne Ybarra.
Other Commissioners present were: Tom Dunlap, Robert McCrea, Bonnie Montgomery, and
John Taylor. Councilor Jeanine Corn Best was in attendance. Darrell Davenport was the guest
speaker.
Approval of Minutes: The minutes of the February meeting will be available at the June meeting.
Term Limits: Tom recommended that half the Commission start with a two year term from today
to avoid all terms expiring at the same time, preserving continuity. Then all would be eligible
for the usual four year nominations should they wish.
Lynne Ybarra: 4 years
Tom Dunlap: 2 years
Robert McCrea: 4 years
Bonnie Montgomery: 2 years
Julie Adams: 4 years
Morgan Nelson: 2 years
Charlie Phillips: 2 years
City Secretary Sharon Coll will follow-up with Mayor Kintigh.
Governor’s Council on Aging: Darrell Davenport represents Southeast New Mexico. They meet
on a quarterly basis. Tom reminded everyone that there are currently two directors in Roswell:
Tina Sanchez and Alicia Castro. Darrell addressed the critical issue of transportation. He and
Clara Farah, a representative from Ruidoso, will continue to find solutions. The Council is
addressing the issue of transitioning from nursing home to home health: building ramps and
refitting bathrooms. The annual meeting will be in August at Isleta.
Department of Aging & Long-Term Care: It is critical that requests for funding be submitted in a
timely manner. Once the deadline has passed, the request is automatically dropped. Tom
emphasized that our Commission be knowledgeable on deadlines and to work with our local
representatives. Darrell has a list of all state department heads along with their contact
information.
Meeting Notice: Tom proposed that all commissioners meet with area representatives on May
21 at 1:30, Elks Lodge. The Republican Women’s Group will meet that day. By making our
appearance at 1:30, we can discuss our issues and concerns for our elderly residents and
legislator’s constituents. Highlighted: Transportation, Non-profit assisted living, and Medicaid.
Adjournment: There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:15 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Bonnie Montgomery
