Roswell, NM Commission on Aging Minutes July 21, 2016 Senior Circle Members Present: Tom Dunlap, Vice-Chair Robert McCrea Bonnie Montgomery Renee Swickard Lynne Ybarra, Chair Members Absent: Monica Duran Call to order: The meeting was called to order by Lynne Ybarra at 3:05 p.m. Roll Call: Commissioners introduced themselves to guests. May 19, 2016 minutes: Tom Dunlap made a motion that the minutes be approved; seconded by Robert McCrea; approved by acclamation. Discussion regarding transportation: Robert McCrea has contacted the Administrator of El Castillo, a non-profit assisted living facility in Santa Fe. It was recommended that the administrator be invited to attend a Roswell Commission on Aging meeting. Mr. McCrea also contacted Hubert Quintana, Director of New Mexico Economic Development, to ask if he may be able to assist with funding transportation for Roswell area seniors. There is no funding available at this time. Mr. McCrea also spoke with Senator Bill Burt, Alamogordo, about transportation. Once a van can be purchased, there are other expenses to consider: drivers, insurance, gasoline. There is still an option of working with Chaves County JOY Center. The expense beyond a van: donations could be solicited but only if a 501(c)(3) entity were created and the entity would require the services of a contact person for scheduling, expense reports, etc. Discussion regarding Senior Forum: Scheduled for Monday, August 22, 6:30 till 7:30 p.m., First Baptist Church, televised on Cableone channel 64. There will be ads appearing in the Roswell Daily Record. Topics: Renee Swickard on Medicare and supplemental policies; Tom Dunlap on Medicaid; Charles Shannon, RPh.discussing medications and vaccinations; and Priscilla Lujan, Roswell Alzheimer’s Association. Physician Assisted Suicide: The New Mexico Supreme Court has ruled that it is illegal. Telephone scams: Those pretending to be representatives of the IRS have called local residents. All residents have been advised to obtain caller ID and to immediately hang up the telephone. Roswell, NM Commission on Aging July 21, 2016 Meeting Minutes Page 2 Community Comments:  The subject of long-term health care insurance was addressed by Renee Swickard and Tom Dunlap.  Roswell resident Gary Hartwick mentioned the closing of the Cahoon Park Swimming Pool.  Those with concerns about the quality of care at local nursing homes were advised to contact the New Mexico Department of Health.
