PARKSAND RECREATIONCOMMISSION MEETING MINUTES July 30,2012 Commission Members Present: Bob Edwards James Edwards Mandy Owens Dwain Brown Commission Members Absent: Sarah McArthur Mike Draeger Jim Waldrip Staff Present: Kim Elliott Damian Cheatem Barbara Patterson April Hunter The Parks and Recreation Commission meeting was called to order at 6:10pm by Bob Edwards. Ms. Owens motioned to approve the agenda, as well as the minutes. All were in favor. There were no Community Comments. Past agenda items were addressed. Mrs. Patterson passed out two documents regarding the front footage fees. The Commission looked over the documents and would like something specifying enhancements to both new and existing parks. Mrs. Patterson will have alternate documents available at the next meeting. Mr. Edwards commented that the Commission was currently stalled on the Tree Ordinance issue due to the fact that they are still waiting on a response from the Mayor. Ms. Owens suggested sending another letter to him. Mrs. Patterson presented other cities ordinances regarding glass in parks. Mr. Elliott believes that there should be no glass allowed in parks, being that it could possibly be the cause of an injury. Mrs. Patterson will draft up a glass ordinance for the next meeting. Mr. Elliott had two issues with the alcohol in the park item. The first was keeping the Commission involved in the process of allowing alcohol in the parks and the second was a municipal license. Mrs. Owens asked what the policy was on alcohol in the park. Mrs. Patterson responded that there was no alcohol allowed in City parks unless approved by the City. Mr. Elliott addressed the issue of golf carts on the trail. Mrs. Patterson views it as being a traffic code being that it is a motorized vehicle. Mr. Edwards commented that if the trail was open for golf carts then it wouldn't be long until other motorized vehicles, such as ATV's would be on the trail. There was no new or unfinished business. The next meeting was set for August 27, 2012 and the meeting adjourned at 6:55.
