Parks and Recreation Commission October 28, 2013 6:00 pm Members Present: Bob Edwards, Mandy Owens, JaneAnn Oldrup, Roy Gunn, Jim Waldrip Others Present: Elaine Mayfield, Barbara Patterson, Ken Smith The Parks and Recreation Commission meeting was held at the Parks and Recreation Conference room and was called to order by Bob Edwards at 6:05 pm. JaneAnn Oldrup motioned to approve the agenda, Mandy Owens seconded the motion and all were in favor. With the modification of Juan Oropesa not being present, and Roy Gunn being present. JaneAnn motioned to approve the minutes; Mandy Owens seconded the motion and all in favor. There were no community comments. Discuss date for Sunken Garden: Ken doesn’t have a preference he feels they can do it at any time. Ken would prefer to do dedication in the morning or late afternoon. Ken will get with Laurie Jerge and Mayor Jurney to get a good date for everyone. Director’s search: Bob Edwards stated 3 candidates were interviewed today. The candidates varied in background, Larry Fry, Stacye Hunter, and Bob Edwards did phone interviews. Signage for Missouri Avenue Park: Establishment date of Missouri Ave Park was October 1933. Ken needs an establish date for the park before he can order the sign. Ken would like to keep the same date. Janeann moved to keep the established date October 1933. Jim Waldrip seconded all in favor. Staff Reports Recognition for Commission Members: Bob Edwards read an awards list No Parking signage for Cielo Grande: Bob would like to have the no parking signs over the railing at all times. Many Owens motioned to have Ken Smith make no parking signs permanent JaneAnn seconded and all were in favor. Unfinished Business: James Waldrip spent some time with Nancy Lopez and stated she is excited to come back and he feels that they need to get the sign up for the course and get the dedication in order to invite her for the event. Bob will call the Hispano Chamber and call Steve Smith.
