Regular Meeting of the Public Safety Committee Held in the Conference Room at City Hall October 26, 2015 Notice of this meeting was given to the public in compliance with Sections 10-15-1 through 10- 15-4 NMSA 1978 and Resolution 15-56. ROLL CALL The meeting convened at 3:05 p.m. with Chair Denny presiding and Councilors Sanchez and Velasquez present with Councilor Sandoval being absent. Staff present: Mike Mathews, Devin Graham, Brad McFadin and Todd Wildermuth. Guest present: Larry Connolly APPROVAL OF AGENDA Councilor Sanchez moved to approve the October 26, 2015 regular Public Safety Committee Meeting Agenda as presented. Councilor Velasquez was the second. A voice vote was unanimous and the motion passed with Councilor Sandoval being absent. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Councilor Sanchez moved to approve the September 28, 2015 Public Safety Committee meeting minutes. Councilor Velasquez was the second. A voice vote was unanimous and the motion passed with Councilor Sandoval being absent. REGULAR ITEMS None NON-ACTION ITEMS Police Department Report Deputy Chief McFadin stated there are currently nine (9) Police Officer openings and two (2) Police Service Aide openings in the Roswell Police Department. The Character Counts Award for the Roswell Police Department was awarded to Officer Jorge Arroyo-Jaime. Public Awareness classes are being offered by the Roswell Police Department once a month. The Roswell Police Department will be hosting a Trunk or Treat along with the Roswell Fire Department, Chaves County Sheriff’s Office and the New Mexico State Police. Fire Department Report Chief Graham gave an update on the Fire Department. Reports year to date 2015 include: cardiac arrest saves – 9, structure fires – 64, vehicle fires – 23, grass fires – 62 and false alarms – 346. There are currently 14 openings in the Roswell Fire Department. The Fire Marshal’s Division conducted its annual Fire Prevention Week. The activities include visiting every elementary school in Roswell and teaching the importance of fire safety. Glow sticks will be handed out by the Fire Department to help with visibility safety on October 30 and 31. Code Enforcement Report Mike Matthews stated the Clean and Safe Program is coming to an end October 31, 2015. Code Enforcement has been working closely with the Roswell Police Department to resolve issues within the City. Emergency Management Report Mike Matthews gave a report on Emergency Management. The Roswell/Chaves County Office of Emergency Management was awarded $830,000 by the State Homeland Security Grant Program for fiscal year 2015. This grant will fund two projects which includes upgrading the county wide communication system and access ID control at the fire stations. ADJOURN The meeting adjourned at 3:51 p.m.
