Regular Meeting of the Public Safety Committee Held in the Finance Conference Room at City Hall November 15, 2017 Notice of this meeting was given to the public in compliance with Sections 10-15-1 through 10-15-4 NMSA 1978 and Resolution 17-49. ROLL CALL The meeting convened at 5:00 p.m. with Chair Sandoval presiding and Councilors Foster, Mackey and Sanchez being present. Staff present: Mike Mathews, Chief Devin Graham, Chief Phil Smith, Deputy Chief Michael Stanton Guest present: None APPROVAL OF AGENDA and MINUTES 1. Councilor Mackey moved to approve the November 15, 2017 regular Public Safety Committee meeting agenda as presented and the minutes from the September 6, 2017 Public Safety Committee meeting. Councilor Foster was the second. A voice vote was unanimous and the motion passed. REGULAR ITEMS 2 Resolution 17-62. Chief Smith explained Resolution 17-62 which is a Joint Powers Agreement (JPA) which establishes a taskforce to investigate Homicides and Aggravated Batteries likely to become Homicides. The JPA is between the Fifth Judicial District Attorney, Chaves County Sheriff’s Office and the Roswell Police Department. Councilor Foster made a motion to send to full council to approve Resolution 17-62. Councilor Mackey second motion. Voice vote was unanimous (4-0) and the motion passed. 3. Roswell Angels Program- Chief Smith presented the Roswell angels program to the committee asking for the support of the committee and council. This program provides for the opportunity for an individual seeking help with drug addictions to come to designated locations and receive assistance in connecting them with the councilors. An officer will transport the individual to the councilor’s office to start the process. The Chaves County Sheriff’s Office, Roswell Police Department and Three (3) Roswell Fire Stations will be designated as turn in locations. After discussion Councilor Mackey made a motion to send to full council for support of the Roswell Angel Program. Councilor Sanchez second motion. Voice vote was unanimous (4-0) and the motion passed. NON-ACTION ITEMS None ADJOURN The meeting adjourned at 6:09 p.m.
