Public Safety Committee

Regular Meeting of the Public Safety Committee Held in the Conference Room at City Hall June 20, 2018 at 4 p.m. Notice of this meeting was given to the public in compliance with Sections 10-15-1 through 10-15-4 NMSA 1978 and Resolution 17-49. ROLL CALL The meeting convened at 4:07 p.m. with Chair Best presiding, Councilor Foster and Councilor Henderson being present, Councilor Moore being absent. Staff present: Mike Mathews, Chief Devin Graham, Deputy Chief Mike Stanton, Emergency Manager Karen Sanders, Division Chief Eric Mann, Captain Fhil Gonzales, City Manager Joe Neeb. Guest present: None. APPROVAL OF AGENDA and MINUTES 1. Councilor Foster moved to approve the June 20, 2018 regular Public Safety Committee meeting agenda as presented and the minutes from the May 16, 2018 public safety meeting. Councilor Henderson was the second. A voice vote was unanimous and the motion passed 3-0 with Councilor Moore being absent. REGULAR ITEMS 2. No items NON-ACTION ITEMS 3. Chief Graham handed out the fire department monthly report and the fire department proposal on providing ambulance services, Committee ask multiple questions in the discussion and Chief Graham will continue gathering data to provide to committee. 4. Mr. Mathews provide a copy of the traffic plan for 4th of July fireworks show that has been provided to the public. 5. Mr. Mathews gave a update on traffic calming plan. City Engineer has developed a draft plan to bring to Infrastructure committee for review, this committee will receive monthly updates on this plan as it progresses through committee. 6. Captain Gonzales gave a update on animal control and current staffing. Discussion by committee on a number of topics as it relates to animal control to include staffing, hours of operation and facilities upgrades.  7. Mr. Mathews provided a brief update on combined dispatch, Starting July 1 Mr. Mathews will have dispatch under him as one of his departments and will provide better updates as he begins to spend more time with this department. Information 8. Next meeting July 18, 2018 at 4 p.m. City Hall large conference room.. Chair announcements/reports Chair Best ask about providing the newspaper the opportunity to do a story on what it takes to provide the community with a fireworks show.
