Public Safety Committee

Regular Meeting of the Public Safety Committee Held in the Conference Room at City Hall May 16, 2018 Notice of this meeting was given to the public in compliance with Sections 10-15-1 through 10-15-4 NMSA 1978 and Resolution 17-49. ROLL CALL The meeting convened at 4:00 p.m. with Chair Best presiding, Councilor Foster and Councilor Henderson being present, Councilor Moore being absent. Staff present: Mike Mathews, Chief Devin Graham, Deputy Chief Mike Stanton, Emergency Manager Karen Sanders, Division Chief Eric Mann, Lt. Daniel Fuller, Commander Joe Smith Guest present: Larry Connelly, Eddie Jaramillo, Ms. Penn RDR. APPROVAL OF AGENDA and MINUTES 1. Councilor Foster moved to approve the May 16, 2018 regular Public Safety Committee meeting agenda as presented and the minutes from the April 18, 2018 public safety meeting. Councilor Henderson was the second. A voice vote was unanimous and the motion passed 3-0 with Councilor Moore being absent. REGULAR ITEMS 2. Consider approval of the ambulance contract extension for the final two years of contract – After much discussion on providing ambulance services Councilor Foster made motion to send to full council for approval the extension of the ambulance contract with the exception of number 11 on page 17 in the public safety packet to be reworked by staff to better be able to track. Councilor Henderson was second. A voice vote was unanimous and the motion passed 3 – 0 with councilor Moore being absent. NON-ACTION ITEMS 3. Chief Graham presented to committee a proposed organizational chart outlining the fire department organization in the event that the fire department started providing transport services. Committee ask multiple questions in the discussion and Chief Graham will continue gathering data to provide to committee. 4. Mr. Mathews gave a update on traffic calming plan. Staff is working on developing a plan to bring to council, this subject will also be discussed at upcoming infrastructure meeting on May 29th. Staff will continue to keep committee updated on this plan.  5. Commander Smith gave a update on animal control and current staffing. Discussion by committee on a number of topics as it relates to animal control to include number of animals brought in from county and does county pay for this service. Committee will receive update each month. 6. Mr. Mathews provided a brief update on combined dispatch with a brief description of the new radio system and problems associated with it. Committee will receive a update on project and dispatch each month. Information 7. Next meeting June 20, 2018 at 4 p.m. City Hall large conference room.. Chair announcements/reports Chair Best ask about most wanted being placed on city face book page. Staff will work on this and report back, also discussed getting traffic information out early to the public for 4th of July event. ADJOURN The meeting adjourned at 5:42 p.m.
