CALL TO ORDER Board Chair Liakos called the meeting of the Board of Trustees to order at 4:04 p.m. B. ROLL CALL The meeting of the Board of Trustees convened with members Cymantha Liakos, Kyle Bayless, Valli West, Kay Cargill Jenkins, Lorrina Segovia, Donovan Fulkerson, and Anne Baker being present. A quorum was established with members Tim Hartwick, Kate Griffo, and Pricilla Ornelas being absent. City Council members present: Barry Foster is absent. Staff present: Caroline Brooks, Executive Director. Aaron Wilder, Curator of Collections and Exhibitions, and Cloe Medrano, Registrar. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Member Baker motioned to approve the agenda. Member Segovia was the second. A voice vote was 9-0 and the motion passed with members Griffo, and Ornelas being absent. D. APPROVAL OF July 18, 2022 MINUTES Member Baker motioned to approve the minutes for July 18, 2022. Member Begueria was the second. A voice vote was 9-0 and the motion passed with members Griffo, and Ornelas being absent being absent. E. APPROVAL OF Strategic Planning Workshop Date and Time Member West motioned to approve Strategic Planning Workshop Date and Time. Member Jenkins was the second. APPROVAL OF Renovation and Master Plan Working Group Member Baker motioned to approve Renovation and Master Plan Working Group. Member West was the second. Renovation Check-in Director Brooks explained City Council approved the contract with Huitt Zollars Inc. on August 11, 2022. The next step in the project will be information gathering consisting of questionnaires and interviews to determine what is and isn’t working in the present building. H. Director’s Report Director Brooks noted visitation in July was higher than the past few years. For the exhibition “Future Shock” the museum is extending hours on Thursdays until September 15, the museum is open until 8pm. The museum is hosting a gallery talk every third Thursday with the Curator of Collections and Exhibitions, Aaron, at 5 pm. The RiAR exhibition “Vacations,” featuring artist Yifan Jiang and her collaborator James J.A. Mercer, is closing August 28. The new RiAR artist Lauren Clay’s exhibition is opening September 16th. The new exhibition “Enduring Generosity: Gift of Art 2017-2022” has opened and showcases works which have been donated over the last 5 years. Director Brooks informed the board that an artwork on loan was damaged by a vendor on July 11 and has been fixed by the artist. The artwork is back on display. I. RMAC’s Foundation Report RMAC Foundation Director Cindy Torrez recapped fundraising events planning for 2022. The foundation is planning an event on September 17th and selling tickets for a general admission level $100 and a VIP level $150. The event is taking place at the convention center with entertainment by Vanilla Pop. The doors will open at 6 pm and dinner will be served at 6:30 pm. INFORMATION ONLY ITEMS D. Workshop Overview Director Brooks informed the group of the meeting timeline and is aiming for a finalized amended version of the strategic plan for January/February 2023. The group went over the previous strategic plan and the goals which had been achieved. E. Visioning Exercise Director Brooks walked everyone through a worksheet of what each person envisions for the museum’s future. These questions consist of what areas the museum can improve, if money were not an issue, and where the museum is exceling. F. Survey Results Review and Discussion A survey was sent out to the museum employees, board members, and foundation members regarding the museum performance. Director Brooks discussed the results and how these comments will be added into the strategic plan. G. Discussion of Primary Goals The primary goals were discussed by the group, these included Master Plan, Community Engagement, and Marketing. However, these goals will be added to and will be further addressed at the next meeting. H. Public Comments No comments. I. Adjourn Member West motioned to adjourned. Member Segovia was the second.
