Richardson Ave. Roswell, NM 88201 DRAFT DOCUMENT REGULAR MEETING AT 4:00 p.m. Notice of this meeting was given to the public in compliance with Sections 10-15-1 through 10-15-4, NMSA 1978 and Resolution 24-23. For the Record: Meeting is being streamed live for the public through GoToMeeting. There was no public on GoTo Meeting. A. CALL TO ORDER Board Chair West called the meeting of the Board of Trustees to order at 4:01 p.m. B. ROLL CALL The meeting of the Board of Trustees convened with members, Valli West, Anne Baker, Tim Hartwick, Kay Cargill Jenkins, Jane Avery Gray, Elisa Begueria, Nina Leacock, and Lindsay Mayo Fincher present. A quorum was established with members Lorrina Segovia and Christy Murphy being absent. City Council members present: The museum has not been appointed a city council liaison with the new council members. Staff present: Caroline Brooks, Director, Aaron Wilder, Curator, Jessica Parham, Educator, Jeremy Howl, Planetarium Coordinator and Cloe Medrano, Registrar Community members present: None. ACTION ITEMS C. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Member Fincher motioned to approve the agenda. Member Gray was the second. A voice vote was unanimous, the motion passed 8-0, with members Segovia and Murphy being absent. D. Approval of the June 17, 2024 meeting minutes Member Begueria motioned to approve the June 17 2024 meeting minutes. Member Jenkins was the second. A voice vote was unanimous, the motion passed 8-0, with members Segovia and Murphy being absent. INFORMATION ONLY ITEMS E. Introduction of Summer Collections Intern Medrano informed the board the Collections Department has a summer intern for 10 weeks. This year intern is Alex Smith, and has been assisting with NAGPRA research and the Doris Cross collection. F. UFO Festival Report Howl informed the board the planetarium offered 13 laser shows during UFO Festival. These shows are 45 minutes long and are graphics paired with music, the most popular show being Taylor Swift. The planetarium had 731 attendees. G. Upcoming Exhibition Overview Curator Wilder informed the board of the two new exhibitions opening end of July and beginning of August. Mary Peck: Land Marks will open on Saturday, July 27 and will include landscapes by the Santa Fe-based photographer that sample projects from the 1970s through 2019. Jane Abrams: Fire on the Water will open with a gallery talk, she is a former Roswell Artist-in- Residence. This will take place on Friday, August 2, from 5:30-7 p.m. along with a reception. A celebratory dinner will follow after the reception held at the Anderson Museum. Abram’s exhibit showcases the artist’s painting, printmaking, and sculpture from 1968 to 2022. Subject matter ranges from landscapes of her travels and around her home in Los Ranchos Village near Albuquerque to the landscapes of her mind and spirit. H. Renovation Progress Update Director Brooks informed the board the epoxy terrazzo was installed during June on the north and south sides of the building stretching from the auditorium though the lobby and from the front of the old museum store through the Marshall and Winston Gallery. Aside from some minor clean up and floor transitions, the flooring project has been completed. Construction continues on the lobby, new store, and facade improvements. I. Governance Working Group Report The governance working group will follow up on potential board candidates. J. Director’s Report Director Brooks informed the board the Museum will be partnering with the RMAC Foundation to present the opening night event on Friday, November 8 for the Roswell Museum Holiday Artisan Market. The Museum’s annual festival will take place on Saturday, October 12 and this year’s theme is land stewardship in alignment with the current exhibition Regenerative Actions. Two Gratton Workshops are being offered this fall. They are taught by Regenerative Actions artist, Esha Chiocchia, in gold leafing photographic prints (August 24-25) and Debbie Maddy in shibori and indigo dyeing (September 12-14). With the contribution of $119K in state allocations, the museum will be able to resolve the HVAC electrical issue that arose this past spring as well as replace additional outdated and broken units.
