ROSWELL PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING 4:00 p.m. May 22, 2014 Bondurant Room MEMBERS PRESENT: Marna Hunt, Judy Armstrong, Patti Bristol, Lewie Montgomery, Magil Duran, and Michelle Hembree MEMBERS ABSENT: Linda Madrid OTHERS PRESENT: Betty Long, Library Director, Stacye Hunter, Assistant City Manager, and Kay Carrasco, Recording Secretary. CALL TO ORDER: Marna Hunt, President, called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. Members present were noted, proper quorum was met. MINUTES: Ms. Hunt asked if there were any corrections or additions to the minutes of the April 24th meeting; there were none. Mr. Duran moved that the minutes be accepted, Ms. Hembree seconded, and the motion passed. DIRECTOR’S REPORT: In addition to her written report Betty Long, Library Director, reported that the final classroom tours for the school year had been completed, and that the Library was gearing up for the busy summer season. NOMINATIONS COMMITTEE: Dr. Armstrong confirmed the Nominations Committee’s slate of officers for 2014-2015, as follows: President, Marna Hunt; Vice President, Magil Duran; and Secretary, Linda Madrid. ELECTION OF OFFICERS: Dr. Armstrong moved the slate of officers, Ms. Hembree seconded, and the officers were elected as nominated. LIBRARY BOARD ORIENTATION: Ms. Long presented information in both printed handouts and a power point format of historical highlights of the Roswell Public Library. Also explained was the Library’s relationship with and obligations to the New Mexico State Library, as well as our compliance with the policies of the City of Roswell and laws of the State of New Mexico. A power point of photographs introduced each Library staff member, with Ms. Long noting the years of service of each employee and the total—260 years of experience. She also explained the origin and purpose of the two support groups of the RPL, the Library Foundation and the Friends of the Library. OTHER: Ms. Hunt encouraged the two newest Trustees to consider joining the Friends of the Library and provided them with applications. She then read a thank you note from Elizabeth Shamas, thanking the board for the reception, flower arrangement, and book donation in her name, following the April board meeting. Dr. Armstrong also addressed the new members, encouraging them to let the Friends or the Library director know if they were aware of interesting speakers or authors who might be available for the Library’s program series.
