Robert Wilson put a motion forth to not recommend approval of this mural
to the City Commission. Alesha Beistline, Jodie Ellison and Jason

The majority of the group believes that because @properties has used this
design in a previous ad campaign, the mural design is more of a sign than
it is art.

COMMISSION FOR THE ARTS
AGENDA ITEM
Title Mural Proposal
SUBMITTING DEPARTMENT City Manager’s Office
PRESENTER Alayna Brasch
MEETING DATE 4/21/2025
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY (include history of previous Commission action/discussion,
background, scope of work, etc.):
Members of the Commission for the Arts:
We recently received another mural proposal. It would be on the outside wall of the
elevator/stairwell shaft of the building located at 215 S Center St. The mural is being proposed
by @properties Christie’s International Real Estate (Suite 200 of the building). It would be
visible from 3rd St if you’re facing S Center St. Rather than being a painted mural, this would
be made from exterior grade material vinyl.
The mural would be done by FASTSIGNS Detroit, a local company specializing in marketing
signage. The idea for the mural is to have the word ‘love’ in large white cursive letters displayed
directly across the bricks and windows of the elevator shaft. The name of the proposed mural
is ‘LOVE Where You Live’ and it comes from the company’s Love Where You Live ad
campaign. In 2015, a Chicago-based artist was commissioned by @properties to create the

logo and turn it into a mural on one of @properties Chicago offices. This mural can now be
seen in multiple places throughout Chicago, and there’s one in Dallas as well.
Should the Commission for the Arts recommend the approval of this application request to the
City Commission, the City Attorney will draft a contract and licensing agreement for the project.
Respectfully submitted,
Alayna Brasch
Graduate Fellow
