Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 7:01pm. 2. Public Comment 3 members of the public came to speak and to observe the meeting. 3. Approval of Agenda Moved by: Denise Reske Seconded by: Laura Bonnell Motion to approve the agenda. Motion Adopted 4. New Business 1 Page 2 of 6  5.a 2026 Meeting Schedule Moved by: Robert Wilson Seconded by: Alesha Beistline Motion to approve the 2026 meeting schedule. Motion Adopted 5.b Quarterly Arts Networking Events The group would like to have a quarterly event on April 20th prior to the meeting. Invite all groups, to introduce ourselves to them and hear from them on what they would like to do. Alesha, Jason, Robert to coordinate event. Robert - to investigate food options and put together a survey to better understand the needs of the arts community. Jason - Music and party Alesha - Help with invitations, program Future events - perhaps 2-3 events per year, and seeing about other venues or looking at art disciplines. Budget: $1,000 Moved by: Laura Bonnell Seconded by: Robert Wilson Motion to approve a $1,000 budget for the quarterly event. Motion Adopted 6. Old Business 6.a Youth Artist Laureate Update Staff provided an update that the program would launch shortly, with the intent to close for the following meeting. 6.b Bent Brush Update This item is going to be reviewed by the Parks and Recreation Board at their November meeting. We are still looking to see if we can get this rolling. 7. Subcommittee/Program Reports Sharing the Warmth is going to be starting soon. Denise has made contact with the library and they are set to go. 2 Page 3 of 6 8. General Announcements 8.a Appointments Laura Bonnell shared that she will not be seeking re-appointment. Robert, and Alesha are up for renewal of their terms. We anticipate having a new City Commissioner appointed after the election to the board, and a new member in January. 8.b November and December Meetings Moved by: Robert Wilson Seconded by: Denise Reske Motion to cancel the December Commission for the Arts meeting. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 7:47pm. 3 Page 4 of 6  Office of the City Manager 203 South Troy Street Royal Oak, MI 48067 www.romi.gov Removal of Colorful Abstract Beach Sunrise November 14, 2025 Commission for the Arts Members, In the past month, we had a request to consider deaccessioning the piece Colorful Abstract Beach Sunrise located on the side of Hotel Royal Oak facing 11 Mile. The artist is Emilie Beadle and was $900.00 when it was purchased. The piece was originally installed as a part of the 2015 11 Mile Art program which places several pieces along the 11-mile corridor east of Main Street. The piece has been exposed to the weather for 10 years and shows signs of fading and cracking in the image (top photo). The photo on the bottom is undated but was in the files from previous staff. The comparison shows the level of fading that has occurred. We have reached out to the property owner but have not heard back as of packet publication. This piece was placed on private property, and over the past few years the board has not wanted to using funding to place public art on private property, so we do not anticipate the item being replaced. Page 5 of 6 This piece was originally funded using CDBG funds, so we will work with the Planning Division to ensure we reflect the removal of the piece. If the board agrees with removal, you will need to make a motion for staff to work on the removal of the art and pay for any costs. At this time, we do not know what the cost will be. Page 6 of 6
