Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 6:00pm. 2. Attendance Present: Georgia Hurchalla, Robin Winter, Kyle VanDeventer, Monica Hunt, Shelly Szuba, Lexi Andre, Student Rep. Leilani Hamilton, ROPD Liaison – Of icer Andre Steineke (brie ly) Absent: Ted Page, Judy Davids 3. Approval of Agenda Motion to accept the agenda made by Lexi Andre Supported by Kyle VanDeventer Motion passed unanimously 4. Approval of Minutes from January 13, 2026 Tabled until next meeting because we did not have minutes printed for distribution. 5. Public Comment Community member Ann and her son Daniel were present. They contributed several good ideas during our event planning discussions, noted below. 6. Announcements/Communications Georgia Hurchalla conveyed the following announcements from Judy Davids:  The Juneteenth subcommittee met recently and is meeting again tomorrow. Monica Hunt is working on developing the by-laws. Page 2 of 6   Parking at the Royal Oak Civic Center will no longer be free under the new parking system. Volunteers on the Community Engagement Advisory Board will not be required to pay on meeting nights. o Commissioner Hunt con irmed parking enforcement will begin February 16.  There is a hold on Normandy Oaks park for May 27 for the City-Wide Block Party. o Additional block party ideas:  The Royal Oak Chess Club may be interested in teaching chess.  The Royal Oak Sustainability Manager is investigating a grant for pollinator habitat kits for distribution at the block party.  DPS is able to provide a presentation on invasive plants in April. 7. Un inished Business Tentative 2026 Event Calendar Month Major Events CEAB Events March Spring Break 3/30-4/3 April Spring Break 3/30-4/3 4/14 – DPS presentation on invasive plants  Also include info on tree planting program, invite Gardening Club to participate? Combine with downtown scavenger hunt? November Thanksgiving December Winter Holidays We discussed moving the Block Party & Resource Fair to June for warmer weather and lesser chance of rain. Page 3 of 6 8. Event Planning a. Oakland County Prosecutor & Police Hot Topics The plan for the Oakland County Prosecutor & Police Hot Topics event is to combine with our May 12 meeting. Prosecutor McDonald will speak irst, followed by Of icer Steineke’s presentation on fraud. We have our usual meeting room booked but discussed whether we should move the event to the Senior Center. Commissioner Hunt is awaiting con irmation from Prosecutor McDonald. Ann suggested incorporating a virtual option for streaming at senior apartments. b. Block Party & Resource Fair Robin Winter will bring bees. Shelly Szuba suggested bringing in animals with a petting zoo or nature center. Discussed bounce house on the soccer ield. 9. New Business Leilani suggested college or career fair in the summer. Shelly suggested ladies’ downtown shopping night. 10. Adjournment Motion to adjourn made by Monica Hunt. Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 6:00 PM 2. Attendance Present: Ted Page, Robin Winter, Georgia Hurchalla, Alexandra (Lexi) Andre, Kyle VanDeventer, Monica Hunt, Student Rep. Leilani Hamilton, ROPD Liaison - Officer Andre Steineke, and Judy Davids (non-voting) Absent: Shelly Szuba, New member just learned of her appointment 3. Approval of Agenda Motion Made to accept the agenda by: Monica Hunt Supported by: Georgia Hurchalla Motion passed unanimously 4. Approval of Minutes from November 11th, 2025 Motion Made to accept the minutes by: Monica Hunt Supported by: Rob Winter Motion passed unanimously 5. Public Comment Melanie Macy was in attendance, but no public comment was made. 6. Announcements/Communications We look forward to welcoming new member, Shelly Szuba next month 7. Unfinished Business: The Juneteenth committee will not be following our suggestion for meeting at the police station at 5PM before our Community Engagement Board Meeting. They are meeting at Farmers Market on Wednesday at 5 PM. 8. New Business Board Officer elections – Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer Nominations made for Chair for Ted Page and Georgia Hurchalla. Ted suggested that supporting Georgia would be a better role for him as Vice Chair. Lexi Andre nominated herself to be our secretary. Ted Nominated Rob Winter as our Treasurer. A unanimous decision was made to accept those nominations a none were opposed. All were in favor! 2026 Calendar Review & Approval. Monthly meeting on the second Tuesday of the month skipping December and adjusting when we have events. Event Planning – New Ideas and partnerships Lots of brainstorming was presented and good ideas were voiced but will be tabled until our next meeting which include: downtown scavenger hunts, Barton Towers Police Dept. discussions, 2026 construction plans, downtown dollars promotions, merging our City-Wide Block Party with the Community Resource Fair (and moving it to Normandy Oaks) with an end of May or early July schedule. o ROPD fraud alerts and warnings – suggestion to blend this with a Prosecutors Office presentation at the same time. o Juneteenth celebration will occur at the same time as the city jazz festival June 19th. At the walk we hope to help collect socks and underwear donations for the Welcome Center. 10. Adjournment Next Meeting will be Feb.10th.
