Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. 2. Approval of Agenda motioned to approve the agenda. Moved by: Anne Hoyt Seconded by: Brandy Boyd Motion Adopted 3. Public Comment Janice Wagman share that she attended the DDA infrastructure meeting committee meeting to discuss the Throne being put in the Civic Center that they will fund for a year. She shared that seniors have trouble using this facility. The Environmental Advisory Board's Action in Plan was approved by the DDA. A resolution meeting with Isaac about placement of the kiosk in the Civic Center parking lot. The current placement is not conducive for seniors to use. Janice shared that 51% of seniors use the county parks. Janice suggested that maybe we can take some trips from the senior center to those parks with a sponsored lunch picnic. 5. Business 5.a Welcome David Woodward, Oakland County Commissioner Chair Dave Woodward gave the board a presentation of transportation throughout Oakland County, grants and stats from a 2024 progress report. He shared the information and statistics from the North Oakland transit authority (NOTA) and the West Oakland transit Authority (WOTA). Oakland County looking at opportunities to merge local communities together (i.e. Royal Oak, Madison Heights, Clawson) to create a transit authority here and provide better transportation with a larger transportation area and more days and times available. 5.b Welcome Shana Shore and Lezette Morgan, SMART Shana Shore share that all fixed routes will be offered 7 days per week. Flex routes provide over 30,000 rides per month in 5 zones. They will be moving to 11 zones soon. Seniors are picked up at the front door and charged 1/2 price. Dart passes can be purchased on the transit application, 31 days pass for $29. Lezette Morgan shared information on ADA applications, door to door assistance, drivers are able to provide additional assistance, cost is $3 each way and Health and mobility rides are guaranteed. Veterans and their dependents ride SMART transportation at no charge. 5.c Senior Center Coordinator Update Senior Center update was provided with the agenda packet. 5.d Staff Liaison Update Jill discussed the mailer opportunity for the Older Adults Board. We discussed what the board wants to see on this mailer, the population that we will be mailing this mailer to and who will be creating the mailer. Public Comment Marie Donagen shared information on senior transportation programs and the many restrictions that she and others have dealt with. Marie encouraged the OAAB to invite SMART, Lyft, Uber, and Oakland County staff to meeting to talk about ways to improve senior transportation. Marie stated that seniors should be able to travel anywhere just as they did when they were younger. Janice Wagman shared that the Civic Center parking lot would be active for parking fees on February 16, 2026. Janice spoke to City Commission and asked that the meters be placed closer to the handicap parking spaces. Janice stated that transportation for seniors is not clear and the communication about transportation programs is not getting to our seniors. Janice suggested bringing in speakers to communicate this message. 5. Business 5.a Election of Officers 5.a.1 Chair Anne nominated Susan as Chair. Moved by: Anne Hoyt Seconded by: Brandy Boyd Motion Adopted 5.b Senior Center Coordinator Update Yolanda provided a senior center update with agenda package that included updates on the Senior Center facility, programs and upcoming events. Yolanda also passed out an updated organizational chart and explained to the board the Senior Center staff and responsibilities. 5.c City Commission Representative Update Paul shared his concerns regarding Senior Transportation, Paul asked Yolanda about the expanding senior transportation expanding services to nights and weekends. Yolanda will be providing stats regarding Royal Oak senior transportation program. 2 Page 3 of 6 5.d Staff Liaison Update Jill shared information about the opportunities to apply for AARP grants and what they can be used for. Motion Adopted 3 Page 4 of 6 Senior Center Updates March 2026 Senior Center Updates: • Senior Center gates were repaired and put back on around the generator and dumpster. • Corewell will begin interviews for a video on the Senior Transportation program and volunteer program on March 23rd. The video will be made sometime in April 2026. The Senior Center was awarded both grants that were submitted to Corewell last year for these two programs. Tax Season: • We have scheduled 510 tax appointments as of March 6th. We have 14 appointments left. AARP volunteers are preparing taxes on Mondays, Wednesdays and every other Friday. Appointments are scheduled Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9:00 AM to Noon by calling (248) 246-3900. You can also use the QR code on the front page of the Times Newsletter to schedule online. When our appointments are completely booked, we will be referring them to other tax sites. Upcoming events/trips: • SMART presentation- Unlock exciting new destinations with SMART modern transportation services. Demand-driven transportation solutions for Older Adults on April 18, 2026, at 1:00 PM. • Royal Oak Rock the Block 2026 will be held on May 15th & 16th in partnership with Habitat for Humanity. Applications will be taken at the Senior Center on March 9th from 10AM to Noon and after that by stopping by the center or calling Carolyn or Yolanda at (248) 246-3900. • A Taste of Time luncheon journey will take place on June 26th. We have collaborated with 3 other centers Southfield, West Bloomfield and Ferndale for this event. We will be transporting our Royal Oak Seniors to Southfield Recreation Center for mocktails, coffee cake and bingo and then to Royal Oak Senior Center for Lunch and trivia, then off to West Bloomfield Connect Senior Center for dessert and games. The other centers will be transporting their seniors to the same locations. Sign up for this program beginning March 10th. • Our Royal Oak seniors are taking off on their trip to Ireland on May 8th to May 17th , 2026. We have 9 seniors signed up for this trip from Royal Oak through Collette Tours. Page 5 of 6 Staff Liaison Update March 2026 Submitted 3 AARP Community Challenge Grants:  Microgrant: $2500 for Emergency Preparedness Kits / Training September 2026  Demonstration Grant: $15,000 for expanded transportation services  Flagship Grant: $10,000 for interactive kiosk at the senior center Feedback on Royal Oak Communications Platforms:  City’s Website: CivicPlus: Notify Me and Text-my-Gov  Royal Oak Police: CivicReady integrated with Alert Sense As part of the city website update project, the communication systems will be assessed for community needs. The communications director has been made aware of the speciﬁc needs and desire to expand capabilities to provide tiered notiﬁcations to seniors. Page 6 of 6
