Meeting Minutes
Chairman Toni Bachman called the meeting to order at 5:05 p.m.
The Commission reviewed the minutes of the June meeting. Phillip Lea made a motion that the minutes
be approved. Jim Campbell seconded the motion and the minutes were approved.
OLD BUSINESS
Civil Service Commission
Bert Fleck shared the results of the Fire Department's promotional testing for Captain and
Battalion Chief. Chief Cochran shared that the Fire Department would backfill a Driver and
Firefighter position in November.
Toni Bachman reminded the Commission that they still needed to review the Civil Service
Commission Rules and Regulations. Two people are needed to perform the task that will begin
with input from the Police and Fire Chief. She also said that the Commission needed to purge
and shred old documents. Trey Smith was asked to research the document retention policy so
that an Ordinance could be proposed allowing the Commission to shred documents based on
retention guidelines. Tracey Cline-Pew was asked to get the shredding process protocol from
Jerrold McKaughan.
Police
None.
Fire Department
Chief Cochran asked the Commission to consider dates for entry-level firefighter testing.
Traditionally this is done in October. The following schedule was tentatively set:
October 25, 2014 Written Test
November 1, 2014 Tier Testing, PAT Testing and Oral Interviews
NEW BUSINESS
Civil Service Commission
Toni Bachman advised the Commission that Bert Fleck had been reappointed to the Civil Service
Commission during the July City Council meeting.
Toni Bachman informed the Commission that they needed to elect officers. Jim Campbell made
a motion that the current slate of officers be reinstated. Garrie Kellam seconded the motion.
The motion carried by a unanimous vote.
Police Department
None.
Fire Department
Chief Cochran advised the Commission that he was exploring the possibility of changing the
assessment portion of the promotional testing in 2015 to resemble the protocol used by the
Police Department.
At 6:00 p.m. Jim Campbell made a motion that the meeting be adjourned. Bert Fleck seconded the
motion and the meeting was dismissed.
