Oakland Cemetery Commission Minutes Tuesday April 16, 2024 The Russellville Oakland Cemetery Commission met for the monthly meeting on Tuesday April 16th at 5:00 p.m. in the 2nd Floor Conference Room of City Hall. The meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. by Commission Chair Walter Hudson. Attending in Person: Director Stephanie Warwick, Assistant Tish French, Commission Chair Walter Hudson, Commission Vice-Chair Mary Schwartz, Commission Secretary Jami Mullen, Commissioner Cindy Hlass, and Commissioner Mindy Hudson. Attending via Google Meets: City Attorney Trey Smith Director Warwick noted that a quorum was present. Old Business: 1. First Item of Business was to review the Minutes from the February 20, 2024 meeting. A motion to accept the minutes was made by Commissioner Mindy Hudson. The second was made by Commissioner Jami Mullen. Motion approved. 2. Second Item of Business was to consider the Financial Report status update presented by Commissioner Mary Schwartz. She reported on current activity. The current operating account balance is $128,819.62. The Trust account balance is $161,977.36. A motion was made by Commissioner Mindy Hudson to accept the financial report as presented. Commissioner Cindy Hlass made the second. Motion approved. 3. Third Item of Business was to welcome City Council Liaison Emily Young to the meeting. 4. The Fourth Item of Business was a report by Director Warwick regarding the completion of the replacement sign installation at Oakland Cemetery. The replacement sign was paid completely by insurance in the amount of $3486.07. There is interest in doing a traffic study on that corner, 8th and Detroit, for the possibility of additional signage as a traffic safety measure. 5. The Fifth Item of Business was a reminder by Director Warwick of the upcoming scheduled mini-workshop at Oakland Cemetery on Saturday April 20th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The focus of the workshop will be the cleaning of gravestones. There are currently 3 individuals signed up to participate plus commissioners. Due to a schedule conflict it was decided to cancel the May 18th scheduled workshop. The other scheduled dates will remain as September 21st, October 12th, and November 2nd.  6. The Sixth Item of Business was a Russellville Oakland Cemetery statistics update. Director Warwick provided a chart that showed the following points of interest: Russellville Oakland Cemetery Total Graves 9419 Occupied Graves 4709 Reserved Graves 202 Veteran Graves 392 Available Graves 855 Owned Graves 2516 No Status Graves 801 Unavailable Graves 6 Point of Interest 9 7. Floor was opened for public address of concerns / suggestions. No one from the public was present. 8. Commissioner Cindy Hlass requested an update on the February floral removal and maintenance. Director Warwick stated that the clean up went well. Some families were reminded of the cemetery guidelines regarding arrangement placement. Our cemetery maintenance crew is doing a wonderful job. New Business: 1. There were no new items brought before the Commission. 2. Next Commission Meeting is set for July 16, 2024 at 5:00 pm.
