Council Meeting

Regular Council Meeting March 11, 2024 Mayor Stan Townsend called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. In attendance were Darwin Sietsema, Brian Baartman, Chris McCurdy, Stu Peterson. Also in attendance was Darrin Haroldson. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by those all in attendance. Stu Peterson was the only one showing interest in filling the council vacancy. M/Baartman 2/Sietsema/cd unanimously to appoint Stu Peterson to fill the council vacancy until the next General Election. Stu Peterson took oath of office. Minutes of the February meeting was approved by M/Sietsema 2/McCurdy/cd unanimously. The Regular Meeting was closed, and the public hearing opened at 6:31 p.m. The reason for this public hearing was for the updated Floodplain Ordinance. No one from the public attended. The public hearing closed at 6:36 p.m. and the Variance Public Hearing opened. The reason for this public hearing is for a variance for Lee Eckhoff at 201 Cleveland Street. They need a six-foot (6’) variance to the west side of their property to build an 18’ x 32’ detached garage. No one from the public attended. The variance public hearing closed, and the regular meeting re- opened at 6:40 p.m. The updated Floodplain Ordinance 154 was adopted by M/Sietsema 2/Peterson/cd unanimously. Summary of Ordinance 154 – A Summary of Ruthton Floodplain Ordinance 154 for publishing was approved by M/Baartman 2/Sietsema/cd unanimously. Resolution 2024-05; A Resolution Adopting Findings of Fact and Reasons for Approval for Variance Application of Lee Eckhoff at 201 Cleveland Street-Ruthton, Minnesota was approved by M/Peterson 2/Sietsema/cd unanimously. A building permit for Lee Eckhoff to build an 18’ x 32’ detached garage with cement pad at 201 Cleveland Street was approved by M/Baartman 2/Peterson/cd unanimously. A demo permit and building permit for Abel Martinez tear down existing garage and build a 30’ x 50’ attached garage at 510 Cleveland Street was approved M/Baartman 2/Peterson/cd unanimously. Wastewater Supervisor Darrin Haroldson gave the council his report for the month of February and answered the council’s questions. The February bills were presented and approved by M/Baartman 2/Sietsema/cd unanimously. M/McCurdy 2/Sietsema/cd Baartman abstained to approve the Small Cities Development Program Grant Cooperative Agreement. The meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m. by M/Baartman 2/Peterson/cd.
