Council Meeting

Regular Council Meeting July 8, 2024 Mayor Stan Townsend called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. In attendance were Darwin Sietsema, Brian Baartman, Chris McCurdy, and Stu Peterson. Also in attendance were Matt Taubert and Darrin Haroldson. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all in attendance. Minutes of the June meeting were approved by M/Sietsema 2/Peterson/cd unanimously. Accountant Matt Taubert from Meulebroeck, Taubert & Co. was here for Ruthton’s 2023 Audit Report. The city received a clean audit opinion. The council approved the Journal Entries for the beginning of the year by M/Baartman 2/McCurdy/cd unanimously. The council accepted the 2023 Audit Report by M/Peterson 2/Sietsema/cd unanimously. Wastewater Supervisor, Darrin Haroldson gave the council his report for the month of June and answered the council’s questions. Two (2) bids were received for tree work to be done around town from Lamote Tree Service for $2000.00 and from Serreyn Tree Service for $2275.00. After discussion it was approved to have Lamote Tree Service come in and do the tree work by M/Baartman 2/Sietsema/cd unanimously. The June bills were presented and approved by M/Peterson 2/McCurdy/cd unanimously. Renewal of liquor license for Stubb’s Pub was approved pending proof of liquor liability insurance by M/Baartman 2/Peterson/cd unanimously. It was approved by M/Sietsema 2/Baartman/cd unanimously to purchase and renew CD’s as they mature to the best rate. The council discussed and the decision was made that this year’s fall cleanup will be the last one held. The city will continue to do the spring clean-up annually. The Country Church has generously offered to purchase and donate 12 American Flags for the Ruthton Cemetery. The meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m. by M/Sietsema 2/Baartman/cd.
