Council Meeting

Regular Council Meeting September 9, 2024 Mayor Stan Townsend called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. In attendance were Brian Baartman, Chris McCurdy, and Stu Peterson. Absent was Darwin Sietsema. Also in attendance was Darrin Haroldson. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all in attendance. Minutes of the August meeting were approved with corrections by M/Peterson 2/Baartman/cd unanimously. Wastewater Supervisor, Darrin Haroldson gave the council his report for the month of August and answered the council’s questions. Building permit for Jamey Bultinck for an 18’ x 36’ attached garage to his house at 560 Cleveland Street was approved by M/Baartman 2/McCurdy/cd unanimously. The August bills were presented and approved by M/Peterson 2/McCurdy/cd unanimously. Receipts = $18,352.60. Disbursements = $31,510.31. The 2025 Police Contract was discussed. The contract is the same as the 2024 contract. The total cost shall not exceed $14,560. After discussion it was approved to sign the 2025 Police Contract by M/Baartman 2/Peterson/cd unanimously. The 2025 utility rates were reviewed and discussed. A $1.00 increase plus tax to the garbage was approved by M/Baartman 2/McCurdy/cd unanimously. The proposed levy was discussed and it was decided to increase the 2025 Levy 5% by M/Peterson 2/Baartman/cd unanimously. The final levy will be discussed for final approval again at the December meeting. The 2025 budget was approved by M/Baartman 2/McCurdy/cd unanimously. Both City Clerk/Treasurer Rochelle VanderWoude and Wastewater Supervisor Darrin Haroldson received a 5% raise. The council discussed the rental agreement for the Bus Garage to Tyler Bus Service. Currently the rate for rent is $350.00 per month for five (5) stalls. It was decided to increase the rent to $400.00 per month by M/Baartman 2/Peterson/cd unanimously. A donation was received and accepted for the cemetery fund from Jim & Judy Hibma. The meeting adjourned at 8:40 p.m. by M/McCurdy 2/Baartman/cd. Rochelle VanderWoude Ruthton City Clerk/Treasurer
