Council Meeting

Regular Council Meeting April 14, 2025 Mayor Stan Townsend called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. In attendance were Darwin Sietsema, Brian Baartman, Chris McCurdy, and Stu Peterson. Also in attendance were Leon Mortland, Tim Madsen, Luke Johnson, Darrin Haroldson, and Rochelle VanderWoude. All those in attendance recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Minutes of the March meeting were approved with corrections by M/Sietsema 2/Baartman/cd unanimously. Leon Mortland and Tim Madsen from the Peace Lutheran Church were here to talk to the city council on if there was any interest to take over the Peace Lutheran Cemetery and/or the Opdal Cemetery in Florence. It was also brought up on if there was any interest in the church property. This issue is one that will be discussed in the months to come. Wastewater Supervisor, Darrin Haroldson gave the council his report for the month of March and answered the council’s questions. The March bills were presented and approved by M/Peterson 2/Baartman/cd. RECEIPTS = $50,672.54 DISBURSEMENTS = $58,282.76 Bid proposals were presented for Crack filling and Sealcoating to be done to Gilbertson Avenue from Aetna Street to Cleveland Avenue, Cleveland Avenue from Gilbertson Avenue to Leo Avenue, Cleveland Street from Smith Avenue to Railroad Avenue, Main Street from Gilbertson Avenue to Railroad Avenue. Bids were received from Fuller Paving for $41,376.00 and from Bertram Asphalt Company for $58,675.32. The council accepted the Fuller Paving bid for $41,376.00 by M/Peterson 2/Baartman/cd unanimously. Renewal of liquor license for Lorrissa Lingen at the Sunset Bar & Grill was approved by M/Baartman 2/Peterson/cd unanimously. The city is requiring the bars to run on an annual renewal of January 1st – December 31st. This renewal for the Sunset Bar & Grill will expire on December 31, 2025.
