Parks & Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes Regular Meeting Minutes April 7, 2021 6:00 PM The Parks and Recreation Commission of the Town of Sahuarita met in the Sahuarita Council Chambers, 375 West Sahuarita Center Way, Sahuarita, AZ 85629 on Wednesday, April 7, 2021. I. BUSINESS 1. Park Facility Survey Results Director Smejkal presented results from an informal Park Facility and Use Survey conducted in March. Discussion ensued. Responses to the open-ended question "what would influence you to use Town-owned parks more frequently?" were distributed. RESULT: DISCUSSION ONLY 2. Trail Use Survey Results Administrative Specialist Parkin presented results from an informal Trail Use Survey conducted in December 2020-January 2021. Discussion ensued. Parkin remarked that the Department has applied for a trails planning grant from the National Park Service; if awarded a more in-depth survey and community engagement will occur. RESULT: DISCUSSION ONLY V. COMMISSIONER AND DIRECTOR REPORT ON CURRENT EVENTS 1. Director and Commissioner Reports Director Smejkal introduced new Senior Office Assistant Tina Edwards. Rachel Stephenson is now working in the Community Services division. Construction of the pollinator garden and nature trail are underway at Anamax Park. Footings for the pedestrian bridge at Sahuarita Lake Park are scheduled week of April 12. Parque Los Arroyos clean up day is scheduled for April 24; registration for volunteers is currently open online. Quail Creek-Veterans Municipal dog park is currently closed for turf maintenance and will reopen Monday, April 12. The Spring Break Camp was a success with registration at full capacity. Two household style family events were recently held, Pinata Bash and Bunny Bonanza, both events had great participation. A Movie in the Park and the S.T.A.C. Memorial event will be held this month, both at Anamax Park. The department has begun expanding in-person programs while being mindful of safe spacing and social distancing practices.
