The purpose of the meeting was to review proposed figures submitted by City Department Heads for the 2025-2026 City Budget. Worksheets for the budget were distributed to the Mayor and Common Council on January 24, 2025. Department of Public Works Superintendent Rob Carpenter reviewed all the DPW proposed budget lines. He is proposing to purchase one new front loader, one new backhoe, two trucks and two Bobcats for sidewalk plowing and other uses. He stated the insurance company has asked that the department installs GPS tracking in the vehicles. He would also like to install surveillance cameras around the DPW building. It was suggested to include the cameras in the new budget line under the Police Department budget. City Assessor Cynthia Franklin reviewed the proposed Assessment budget. She included the wages that include her retirement and the new Assessor’s increase. It was noted that one day of pay for the Account Clerk/Typist should no longer be charged to the Law budget. Fire Chief Sturdevant reviewed the proposed budgets for Public Safety Administration (Codes), Fire Department and Ambulance. He included the purchase of a used truck and half of the cost of a new weather resistant drone, to be split with the Police Department. Human Resource Manager Tina Rider reviewed the budget for Personnel. She included “The Green Button” program for lock-down/shelter-in-place notifications and a time clock system. Scott Collins discussed some needs for computer system upgrades.
