Neighborhood Improvement Advisory Council Meeting Minutes Wednesday. September 13, 2017 7:00 P.M. City Hall Annex, 120 Washington Street, 3rd Floor Members Present: Barbara Mann, Jen Meger, Norman LaPointe, Christian Haselgrove, Flora Tonthat, Anne Sterling, Nina Cohen, Jerry Smith Staff Present: Dominick Pangallo (Mayor’s Chief of Staff) Guests Present: None Approval of September 13, 2017 Meeting Minutes: Approved Public Comment: None City Shuttle Working Group update: Jim Kearney, NIAC’s designee on the working group, was absent, so Dominick provided an update on the purpose of the working group, which also led to a discussion about the pilot program for October weekend shuttles taking place the last two weekends of October. Council Updates: Northfields-still many concerns about the Ferris junkyard proposal; Ward 6 candidates’ forum went well. BSNA-Ward 2&6 forum is 10/17. HDSNA-Ward 1 forum was last night; visit of the Le Soreal cruise ship went well; street sweeping had to be redone and the notice was a bit too short. SSNA-On-going problems with SSU party houses on Wisteria & Hazel and parking complaints on Loring & Harrison. Chestnut-New brick sidewalk going in around the library on Essex; helped with SCNA at last week’s Ward 2 forum. SCNA-still need striping around Washington Square; October resident parking signs are being taken down; parade went OK but clean-up near the Hawthorne Hotel may have been missed; still speeding issues with Footprint workers driving on Webb Street, especially during the morning shift. GESNA- Endicott and Prescott Streets change is permanent but new signage still needed; seeing speeding on Winthrop Street; Summer Street residents are preparing a request for a year-round resident parking zone. City Updates: Status of paving program distributed. Canal Street flood control and roadway project updates distributed. Witch City 5K on 10/14. Starts 9am from Willows and ends there; no road closures planned. MDA motorcycle ride 10/15, enters Salem via Lafayette Street from Marblehead around 1pm; Derby St from Lafayette to Congress and Congress from Harbor to Derby will be closed noon-2:30pm, no parking 11am-4pm. Voter registration deadline is October 18. Elections Office will be open until 8pm that day. October 12th at 6:30pm, 120 Washington Street: Conservation Commission hearing on the proposed mini-roundabout at Swampscott Road and First Street. Week of October 23rd is curbside yard waste collection. Dumpster for bulky trash items (limit of 2) on weekends at Transfer Station. ID required.
