Scholarship & Education Committee Meeting – Draft Minutes Wednesday, March 8, 2021, 6:30 P.M., meeting held remotely Called to Order: 6:33 p.m. Members Present: Tyler Carlton (chair), Liz McGovern, Greg MacPhee, Tayla Thompson, Andrew Boucher, Cynthia Nina-Soto, Lynne Mullen Staff Present: Dominick Pangallo 1. Call to Order 2. Approval of January 20, 2021 minutes: Tayla moved to approve, seconded by Greg. Approved unanimously. 3. Financial Updates: Dominick shared that the Scholarship Fund took in $221.05 in January and $421.55 in February and has a balance of $5,112.86. The Education Fund took in $183.49 in January and $361.78 in February and has a balance of $13,174.09. 4. Old Business a. Fundraising Updates: Tyler will reapply to the local grants now that we are in a new year. 5. New Business a. Review of Scholarship Fund applications: Only one application has been received thus far. b. Review of Education Fund grant applications: The Committee discussed an application from LEAP to fund a graduation celebration and agreed it would not be an acceptable use of the Education Fund grant. Cynthia moved to reject the request, seconded by Greg. Rejected by a vote of 6-0-1, with Lynne abstaining as she joined the meeting late and missed the discussion. The Committee discussed an application from the Welcoming Immigrant Network to fund a financial literacy program. Committee members had additional questions about how many of the participants would be Salem residents and how often the program will be offered. Tyler will follow up with the applicant to collect this information. Tayla moved to table the application until the April meeting, seconded by Liz. Vote to table approved unanimously. 6.
