Scholarship & Education Committee Meeting – Draft Minutes Monday, August 9, 2021, 6:30 P.M., meeting held remotely Members Present: Lynne Mullen, Cynthia Nina-Soto, Amy Stewart, Andrew Boucher, Tayla Rose, Elizabeth McGovern Staff Present: Dominick Pangallo 1. Call to Order: 6:31 p.m. 2. Approval of June 14, 2021 minutes: Tabled to September meeting. 3. Financial Updates: Dominick reported that the Education Fund took in $22 in June and $809.75 in July, for a current balance of $14,366.43. The Scholarship Fund took in $60.30 in June and $223.63 in July, for a current balance of $3,771.33. The sizable July receipts for the Education Fund were largely due to a single $510 donation. 4. Old Business a. Fundraising Updates: Cynthia reported that she is running in a benefit road race on October 9th, with a $10,000 fundraising goal, where half of the proceeds will go to the Scholarship Fund. She’s at about $2,000 so far and asked the committee members to help promote it. Dominick mentioned that the fund’s text-to-donate links still seem active, so he will have the October fliers made up for the Haunted Happenings shuttles. Liz suggested the committee think about ways to partner with the Food Truck Festival, Creative Salem, or other existing events that could be leveraged to raise funds. Lynne added that some community groups raise money via round-up donations or collections at drive-up or drive- through events. 5. New Business: The committee decided to place the Education Fund grant application on the September meeting agenda, to open a new round for applicants to submit requests before an October deadline. No in-person attendance of members of the public will be permitted, but every effort will be made to ensure that the public can adequately access the proceedings in real time, via technological means.
