COUNCILMEMBERS’ REPORTS, APPOINTMENTS AND FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS
Councilmember McShane announced he is hosting a Monterey Bay Community Power
Community Meeting on July 30 in the Rotunda and encouraged the community to attend.
He reported that he participated in the Seogwipo City, South Korea delegation visit
focused on agriculture technology, education and tourism. Councilmember McShane
expressed concerns regarding the recreational vehicle parking on Griffin Street and
requested the City address the health and welfare issues in the area. In closing, he
requested a presentation from Hartnell Community College to highlight their infrastructure
plans.
Councilmember Villegas highlighted events he attended and upcoming events to include
the Forbes AgTech Summit, Madonna Del Sasso annual festival, and the California
Rodeo Salinas.
Councilmember Craig reported she attended a Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority
(SVSWA) meeting and the Board voted to offset of the City of Salinas rate adjustment
out of their rate stabilization fund. Additionally, she reported that the Board rejected the
long-term facilities needs requested by staff and deferred the project of Madison Lane.
Councilmember Craig reported that she attended the Transportation Agency for Monterey
County (TAMC) meeting and voted to allocate an additional $1.2 million toward the state
condemnation fund for the remaining three properties at the Intermodal Transportation
Center (ITC), discussed the regional development impact fees nexus study and approved
a project for Metz Road in Soledad.
Councilmember De La Rosa highlighted events she attended including the Forbes
AgTech Summit, Mid-Pen Groundbreaking Ceremony and the NALEO Conference in
Arizona.
Councilmember Barrera announced the upcoming community meeting on July 24 at the
Firehouse Recreation center to discuss the Williams Road Improvements.
Councilmember Barrera requested an elevator at the Firehouse Recreation Center and
Keeping Families Together resolution. Request for the resolution was second by
Councilmembers McShane and Davis.
Councilmember David requested the Council consider establishing a Make A Difference
Day.
Mayor Gunter reported he attended a special Citizenship Ceremony at Hartnell
Community College. He commended Councilmember McShane for hosting the Sister City
Delegation and the tree planting efforts with the Steinbeck Rotary Club. Mayor Gunter
reported that he attended a housing forum where they discussed the housing needs in the
community.
