The motion carried by the following vote: Ayes: 7- Councilmember Barrera, Councilmember Cromeenes, Councilmember Davis, Councilmember De La Rosa, Councilmember McShane, Councilmember Villegas and Mayor Gunter Enactment No: RES 21670 COUNCILMEMBERS’ REPORTS, APPOINTMENTS AND FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS Councilmember McShane reported crime statistics for 2019. He added that he attended a faith based community event and thank everyone for their support and prayers for his daughter. Councilmember Villegas reported that he attended the Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority meeting and tour of Johnson Canyon Landfill and the Board discussed the expansion of the landfill and the future of the Authority. He reported that he attended the Rancho San Juan High School grand opening ceremony with Councilmember Davis. Mayor Gunter reported he attended the Salinas Firefighter Academy, hosted an City of Salinas Page 6 City Council Meeting Minutes - Unofficial July 2, 2019 Opportunity Zones meeting with City Managers from King City and Seaside working with Senator Caballero to secure Opportunity Zones funding. Mayor Gunter stated he attended a successful Forbes AgTech Summit. In closing, he reminded the community to exercise safety on 4th of July. Councilmember De La Rosa reported she attended various meetings and events include the Salinas School of Dance "Love to Dance" recital, the Opportunity Zones meeting, Blue Zones Project Kick-off, the Chinatown Revitalization Community meeting and the Forbes luncheon. Councilmember Barrera commended the various organizations and community partnerships for acquiring funding for the Regional Soccer Complex. He announced upcoming events which include the Youth and Government Institute Mock City Council meeting on July 12 at 10:30 a.m. and the Williams Road Improvements Project community meeting on July 8. He requested Towt Street between E. Market Street and Laurel Drive be added to the 2018 Slurry Seal project list. Additionally, he requested the crosswalk on E. Market Street/Kern Street be repaired. Councilmember Davis reported that he attended the Rancho San Juan High School grand opening ceremony. He stated that the Transportation Agency for Monterey County is still working on the Rail to Salinas project. Councilmember Davis stated he is scheduled to meet with Monterey Salinas Transit, Councilmember Barrera and City Manager Corpuz on July 10th to discuss the the rapid transit bus line. He commended Mayor Gunter for the letter in support of the South County courthouse and further commended Mayor Gunter, Assemblymember Rivas, and Senator Caballero for their advocacy and support of the Regional Soccer Complex and city parks.
