SAN BRUNO CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING July 24, 2024 Public Comments From: Justin Fang To: City Clerk; Marty Medina; Rico Medina; Tom Hamilton; Sandy Alvarez; Michael Salazar Subject: Comments about the City Attorney and City Manager Date: Wednesday, July 24, 2024 5:31:00 PM Dear San Bruno City Council, ' Tonight. 7/24/2024 at 6:00 pm you are having a special meeting to discuss the performance of the City Attorney and City Manager. Below I have some comments regarding their time in working for the City of San Bruno. Comments about/for the City Attorney: During Ramadan, the city did not sufficiently work to satisfy the 1st amendment. I believe they should legally have to provide accommodations that are culturally appropriate or consider allowing virtual comments to ensure there is no conflict between speech and religious practice Comments about/for the City Manager: The City Manager is the main point of contact and serves as the public information officer. There isn't a transparent way to know how info is shared and the city doesn't use the website and social media well enough to keep the public updated.. this translates to the way his directors present their info in meetings. It isn't written for the general public, it is written for policymakers the city should work to present information in a way that can allow the public to have more meaningful engagement The City Manager's general attitude toward the public is discouraging. He doesn't seem to show compassion or interest in doing the day-to-day engagement with the general public, neither does he delegate his office to do that important work. more generally, there was a lack of respect when the community met with him over various issues such as the islamophobia incident. He promised follow-ups he didn't deliver on. I hope you consider these comments when looking into the City Attorney and City Manager's performance for this year and any upcoming years they serve the city. Best, Justin Fang
