Crime Prevention Committee 2024 Annual Report 09/24/2024 Committee Members • Chair - Rich Wong • Vice Chair - Deanna Robinson • Committee Member - Peter Carey • Committee Member - Robert Riechel • Committee Member - Rhonda Boone • Committee Member – June Chen • Committee Member – Maria Concha • Police Department Liaison - Officer Garrison Sexson 2 Activities & Accomplishments Neighborhood Watch Program • Assist existing neighborhood watch groups • Encourage formation of new NHW groups • Advertise Neighborhood Watch Program on San Bruno Police Department Website, Nextdoor, and San Bruno CityNet. 3 Activities & Accomplishments “Chat with the Chief” – Actively supporting SBPD Chief Johansen to encourage NBW groups – Participated in meetings and have several more scheduled. – Have tentative dates in other areas throughout the city. 4 Activities & Accomplishments • National Night Out August 2024 •Glenview Park •Shelter Creek •Crystal Springs •San Bruno Downtown •Merimont •Balboa •Sea Cliff • “Coffee with a Cop” • One Love Café - 6/7 • Starbucks Bayhill - TBD • Police Day at Tanforan – June 29th • CPC members hosted table to recruit Neighborhood Watch Groups 5 Goals for 2024 The Crime Prevention Committee is making an effort to work with other city committees, such as the Community Preparedness Committee to share information. Our committee strives to continue to work with Chief Johansen and the Police Department to establish more Neighborhood Watch Groups so they encompass the majority of the city. Questions 2 OBJECTIVE Receive Presentation on Service Recognition Program and Consider Harry Costa and Mike Palmer as Recipients of Extraordinary Service Award 3 SERVICE RECOGNITION PROGRAM PURPOSE  Honors Those Who Have Provided Service to San Bruno  Special Service Award and Extraordinary Service Award  Extraordinary Service Requires Minimum of 25 Years of Service  Nominations Submitted by Recognized San Bruno Organizations 4 SERVICE RECOGNITION COMMITTEE  Composed of Two Commissioners from Culture and Arts, Parks and Recreation, Planning Commissions  Committee Convened September 4 to Consider Harry Costa and Mike Palmer for Extraordinary Service Award  Nominations Submitted by Lions Club and Rotary Club 5 HARRY COSTA SERVICE  Proprietor Costa’s Just Things Over 30 Years  San Bruno Lions Club President and Treasurer  Organized Posy Parade Multiple Times  San Bruno Chamber of Commerce President  Narita Sister City Committee Member  San Bruno Street Fair Organizer 6 MIKE PALMER SERVICE  San Bruno Youth Baseball Coach 1976-2002  Founded and Led Multiple San Bruno Youth Baseball Leagues  Parks and Recreation Commissioner Since 2010 and Chair Since 2012  Served on RAC Construction Advisory Board 2017-2024 7 RECOMMENDED ACTION Adopt a Resolution Approving the Recommendation of the Service Award Committee to Award the Recognition of Extraordinary Service Award to Harry Costa by Naming the Stage at Centennial Plaza After Him (Posthumously) With Placement of the Plaque on or Near the Stage; And Approving the Recommendation of the Service Award Committee to Award the Recognition of the Extraordinary Service Award to Mike Palmer With Placement of the Award Plaque Near Diamond 1 in City Park. 8 Do not approve the Service Award Committee’s recommendation to award the Recognition of Extraordinary Service Award to one or both nominees. •Award the Recognition of Extraordinary Service Award to both nominees, but place one or both plaques on the Unity Sculpture instead of the recommended alternative locations.
