The Regular Meeting of the San Marcos Main Street Advisory Board September 19, 2018 Main Street Program Office – 317 N. LBJ Dr. 5:30 P.M. Vision Statement "To foster a downtown that is a unique and culturally vibrant destination, where local businesses thrive and people of all ages can connect, create and celebrate". Minutes 1. Call to Order Call at 5:32pm 2. Roll Call - all members present 3. Citizen Comment Period 4. Consider Approval of Minutes of August 2018 Meeting - Linda motions to approve, Caitlyn seconds, motion carries 5. Standing Reports:  Engineering – CM Allen under reconstruction until April 2019  Parking Manager/Patrol Report  CVB  Downtown Association report 6. Chairman’s Discussions  Recognition for Samantha 7. New Business  Main Street transition – update from Rebecca  Vice Chair election - Kelly motions to elect Caitlyn, Sarah Lee seconds, motion carries  Sights and Sounds –  Lisa motions for Main Street to take first weekend of Sights and Sounds, while requesting for Rebecca to contact other organizations to take the second weekend, Ashley seconds, motion carries  Project Landmark –  Friday, Sept. 21 @ 10 a.m. - Landmark Ambassador meeting at Main Street  Monday, Sept. 24 @ 9 a.m. media embargo ends. Monday, Sept. 24 @ 9:30 a.m. Main Street will do FB live announcement on church steps.  Voting closes Oct. 24. Participants can submit 5 votes per day.  Main Street was awarded $20,000 for an activation grant, however, processing will take 3-5 weeks. 8. Expenditure Report and Program report from Main Street 9. Committee Reports Promotion Committee Chair – Kristan Alvarez Meeting Time – 2nd Wednesday at 10am Work Plan Items - 1. Strengthen new and existing events through collaboration and promotion o Summer 2019 Ice Cream event – “Scoops on the Square” o CLPP event - September 29th moves to Oct. 20 o Downtown Mermaid Promenade - September 22nd o Texas State Family Weekend Wine Walk - October 5th  Additional stop 2. Evaluate and expand online and offline promotional strategies appropriately o Kissing Tree pop-up shop during Big and Bright Fest September 14-16th - sign up w/Doodle o Upcoming funding opportunity 3. Target outlet and river tourists through online ads and pedestrian wayfinding Design Committee Chair – Caitlyn Strickland Meeting Time – 2nd Thur at 10am Work Plan Items - 1. Identify funding options to create a permanent pedestrian mall in Kissing Alley 2. Create a sense of place through aesthetically pleasing and functional amenities and lighting o SMPD data o CLPP Update o PARK(ing) Day - September 21st 3. Encourage and support historic and cultural preservation efforts Organization Committee Chair – Linda Coker Meeting Time – 3rd Monday at 11am Work Plan Items – 4. Recognize Downtown businesses through monthly Business of the Month award and annual Downtown Awards o Oct BOTM – Caitlyn motions to award Cardinal Frame and Art, Kelly seconds, motion carries. o Planning for annual Downtown Awards event o SMart Awards Update – Chitah Daniels Kennedy nominated by Main Street, will be awarded at SMart Awards which will be announced on Oct. 11 at Centro 5. Engage and recruit volunteers, local organizations and downtown businesses to support Downtown beautification efforts and programming o Recruiting and outreach to Real Estate related offices o TXST Volunteer Fair - September 13th from 10am - 1pm o Big and Bright event at Kissing Tree 6. Advocate for Downtown and report of successes to the public o Speaker series planning Economic Vitality Committee Chair – Ashley McCafferty Meeting Time – 3rd Tuesday at 9am Work Plan Items - 1. Nurture the creative community as an economic driver for Downtown 2. Support, promote and educate on alternative transportation efforts Downtown a. Bike share kickoff - Sept 20th b. Bike Tourism map – delayed 3. Create and promote resources available to Downtown stakeholders, entrepreneurs and potential investors a. Small business trainings/workshops 10. City Council Report 11. Updates and announcements from Board members 12.
