Depot Park.

Staff presented two options generated by artist during final design phase. Option 1
places a round bench equidistant from the palm tree and existing Peanuts
sculpture. Option 2 places a linear bench in the same location. Both bench
designs are in the style of old time wooden railroad station benches with historical
images the back rest. Staff shared that Parks staff will provide final landscape

Art in Public Places Committee Regular Meeting Minutes June 4, 2018
Public Comments:
Mike Montague, President of the Historic Railroad Square Association, stated it’s
critical to know the landscaping plan before selecting artwork. He presented a
drawing by Mr. Carlile of a roundabout with a central place for welcoming art.
Lynda Angell, Railroad Square property owner, is excited about an art piece at the
right time, but concerned about a design that would encourage homeless to occupy
the area.
Dick Carlile encouraged the Committee to consider the big picture of how the
depot works in conjunction with local business and travelers. He added that the
park master plan should tell the story of the park and that the addition of a traffic
round-about would be a great place for public art.
Discussion ensued regarding the Committee’s request to see final landscape
plans prior to selecting the final artwork design.
Anderson moved that in response to the public comments for a comprehensive
plan integrating art, landscaping and paving, no final artwork design is approved at
this time.
Bryant seconded. Motion passed unanimously.
5.2 PROCEDURES FOR EVALUATING AND ACCEPTING GIFTS OF
ARTWORK IN RESPONSE TO THE FIRES
Staff will present a final draft of procedures for evaluating gifts of
artwork and criteria for reviewing artwork related to the fires.
Recommended Action: Approval of procedures
Kiefer moved to approve as written.
Bryant seconded. Motion passed unanimously.
