CHARLIE SAMUELS
Shared Access Advisory Board (SAAB) Meeting
September 6, 2012
City Council Room 5:00 pm
Attendees:
Board Members: Jackie Hakes, Lou Schneider, Mark Benaquista, Charlie Samuels,
Steve Godlewski, Ken Grey (came late).
Staff and others: Kate Maynard and Stephanie Seidmon
Public Comment: None.
1. Housekeeping:
o We will keep the meeting at an hour and a half each time.
2. Approve meeting minutes:
Lou makes motion to approve as written.
o August 23rd change meeting time from 7:00 to 5:00.
o Make the minutes more of a summary with final decisions.
o We will not be recording the meetings.
o None opposed; minutes approved.
3. Complete Streets Checklist:
o We want to ensure that this checklist is not creating redundancies with SEQR.
o We should ask the planning board what they think of the checklist
o We need to figure out a balance so that it’s substantial enough to achieve what
we want to without burdening the planning board and the applicants.
o Eventual need to revise standard details for streets (begin running list of
examples, including bike racks and gradient coverings).
o Discussion about the checklist: It is a tool to provide to the decision makers in
the city with the knowledge of what we should be striving for and this
committee is a resource to supply those tools to the decision making bodies.
4. Housekeeping/Next Steps:
o Once we’re comfortable with a draft checklist, Jackie and Lou will go the
planning board, introduce this committee, and let them know we’re an advisory
resource. The planning board should review the checklist.
o Reach out to various departments in the city (public safety, public works, city
engineer) for buy in.
o To think about for next meeting: what is our role? How do we want to interact
with the planning board, the city council, and other committees? Do we create
a quarterly newsletter? How do we engage the public and let them know that
this policy and this committee exists?
o What do we want our priorities to be for the next year? Look at the short term
action items and decide which ones we want to complete.
o At the next meeting we’ll finish the checklist and Rob Leslie will come
Public Comment
o None.
