PUBLIC WORKS MEETING MINUTES
3/6/2018
SAUKVILLE MUNICIPAL CENTER
639 E. GREEEN BAY AVE., SAUKVILLE, WI 53080
Meeting called to order by Scott Fischer at 6:00 p.m.
Committee present: Scott Fischer, Dave Maglio
Staff: Dawn Wagner, Raymond deBruijn
Others: Richard Belling ( Board Member ), Joe Poinier(sp) – Ozaukee Press
Meeting noticed by State Statue.
LAWN TRACTOR REPLACEMENT
deBruijn explained the need to replacement the large area mower. The current unit is a 2004
TORO 4000D with an 11 foot cutting width. The new TORO and John Deere 1600 are both good
units. The TORO is a little more expensive, however we have a long history with the unit and no
major repairs. We also have a parts inventory that will help with the new unit. The old unit will
be put on the auction site. deBruijn recommended the TORO 4000D demo unit with 107 hours
with a full factory warranty for $56,710.00.
It was recommended to Finance Committee by Scott Fischer and seconded by Dave Maglio.
BASEBALL TRACTOR REPLACEMENT
deBruijn explained the need to replace the current ball diamond tractor. There have been
several large repairs in the last year. Cracked frame and major engine work. The TORO Sand Pro
is a much better unit. It has 3 wheel drive as opposed to 2 wheel drive. There a number of
hydraulic attachments that are specific to ball diamond maintenance. Staff used the unit last
fall and was impressed on how well the unit performed. The old Smithco unit will be put on the
auction site. deBruijn recommended the Toro Sand Pro with attachments for $26,680.00.
It was recommended to Finance Committee by Dave Maglio and seconded by Scott Fischer.
ORD. #783 – TREE SPECIES
deBruijn explained that this ordinance is just an update for the current Village Ordinance on
street trees. The revision lists trees that are planted and eliminates the Ash trees that were on
the old list.
It was recommended to the Village Board by Dave Maglio and seconded by Scott Fischer.
OTHER MATTERS
There are advertisements for a DPW Operator/ Laborer position due to the resignation of Matt
Greenwood. He is taking a position at a company in Germantown. The position closes on March
23, 2018.
The Dries Street walk bridge will be delivered the week of March 12, 2018. There was a delay
because of the company’s previous jobs. They are finishing them up and freeing up equipment
to deliver our bridge.
Staff is working on getting the concrete trailer built for the upcoming season of sidewalk and
catch basin repairs.
The tree work at the north end of Grady Park is almost done. The trees are down and there is
stumping and clean up to do. The work is being done by an outside contractor. When he is done
then DPW will regrade the area and make general use soccer field in the area.
A 2018 Tree Report was presented to the committee. It was compiled by Dan Helm for a class
he is taking. The class is for the Wisconsin Community Tree Management Institute. It is a series
of classes for municipal tree management.
