Ms. King called on Rev. Horace Sanders Jr. of Mt. Olivet Missionary Baptist Church of Schenectady who then provided the int ocation. Ms. King called on Rowie Taylor to lead the Piedge of AIlegance. The Deputy City Clerk called the roll and the foI1owing members of the City Council answered to be present: Present - Council members Carl Erikson, Ed Kosiur, klargaret King. fohn Mootooveren, Lcesa Perarzo, Mat-ion PorlefieId, and Vincent Riggi Also Present - Deputy City Clerk Chad Putman, Corporation Counsel John Polster and Mayor Gary McCarthy. Sit this time Ms. King introduced Dr. Martha Asselin, Interim President of Schenectady County Community College who then provided a presentation related to SCCC as one of Schenectady's Economic Strenghs. Resolution No. 2014 - 62 - A Resolution Recognizing the Achievements of Women and Designating March as "Women's History hIonth9? Rqresentatives Erom the YWCA extended their gatitude for the resolution and acknowledgment by the Mayor and Gity Council. Dot Valachovic, President of the Board of Directors for the YWCA noted there is still much work to be done. The resolution was moved by Ms. Perazzo and seconded by 1Ms. Porterfield. Joy HaU, Schenectady - Noted there are two problems she wants to address. First: cars are double parking and it's hard for traffic to get thou&. Two; seniors are being taken advantage of by contractors. She reported a recent situation which included a senior resident whose driveway and sidewalk was paved without their pemission. She noted these issues need to stop. Bonite Cade, Schenectady - In follow up to earlier comments reiterated that her son who is disabled was hit by a car on the corner of Brandywine and Albany Street. She noted he was in the crosswalk and moved more slowly because of his disability. She asked the City to find the money to incorporate more safety measures at that intersection to prevent this from happening again. She noted the company recently purchased a substantial piece of machinery which will allow it to ot'fer additional services and products. She noted the gaffiti progam will start up in the spring and if there is a business or home that has been tagged, she asked that residents contact her. She noted youth associated wtth the progTam wi1I come out and coker the graffiti at no cost to the city or resident. Ms. Porterfield - Noted ehangcs to the Ammatiye Action Board are moving fornard. The public heriring related to the proposed updates will take place at the Council meeting on April 14, 2014. She added specific goups related to board participation are laid out in the Ie&slation. She noted there are board seats set aside for residents at large. She noted the board is accepting resumes which can be sent to her attention. She noted the Volunteer Income Tax 24ssistance(VITA) program remains active with sites available to assist with filing taxes at Ellis Hospital and SCAP. She noted infomation is available and rcsrdents can schedule appointments by calling lf21 1. She noted Earth Day will be April 22-20t 4 and the Hamilton Hill Nei&borhood Association will be hosting a clean-up day at Jerry Burrell Pitrk. The effort is supported by BXI, City Parks, GE, Habitat for Humanity, ReTree Schene~tadyand the Hamilton Hill Neighborhood Association. She noted the Neighborhood Associatio~is also planning a shredding day with more details to come. Mr. Riggi - Noted Bellevue Preservation will be hav~ngits monthly meeting on April 10, 2014 at 7:00 : p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He added meeting organizers are looking for speakers. We noted Bellevue Preservation annual garage sale will be on June 7 with more information to come. Me noted on June 12,2014 the Belletwe Famers Market will be starting back up and will continue every Thursday through the summer. He then expressed his gratitude to the neighborhood associations for doing a great job. Regarding the lateral program he noted not everyone will be happy. To be clear he clarified the lateral program w ~ t laddress half ofthe upgrade to the current water lines going into residents homes. He noted the home owner is responsible for the other half going from the box, through private property and into f i e house. He noted more details need to be considered.
