Summary of City of Shawano Forestry Work Activities
Presented to the City of Shawano Tree Advisory Committee
By Mike Kroenke‐City Forester
April 8, 2025
‐The acceptance notice from the DNR for the Tree City USA and Growth Award for the City of
Shawano has been received and a notice from DNR representative Patricia Linquist that she will
be attending our Arbor Day Celebration on April 30.
‐I continue to plan for the annual Arbor Day Celebration for Shawano and have been in touch
with Nature Friend Award recipients Mike Bohm. A set date for this year’s Arbor Day
Celebration is Wednesday, April 30, 10am at the Smalley Park pavilion.
‐Doug Erdman of WTCH Breakfast Club has been confirmed for Monday, April 21, 8:30‐9:00 am
for the Tree Advisory Committee.
‐I’m in the process of confirming tree orders from Mecham Nursery and Leaves Inspired
Nurseries. Mike Mahlock and Josh Ladwig of the Department of Public Works confirmed this
year’s planting dates of April 28‐30. A majority of the trees will be planted on the newly
reconstructed Weed St. Also Memorial Park. A number of individuals have contacted me to
plant trees near their establishments on city streets.
‐I continue to receive numerous phone calls and emails regarding tree questions and concerns. I
visit by phone or email and, if needed, visit the homeowner’s residence, and respond to tree
questions and concerns. I also have been getting requests for tree plantings within the City of
Shawano.
