OPEN MEETING LAW COMPLIANCE This agenda was posted in 3 public places (City Hall, Premier Community Bank and the Shawano Library) as well as sent to local news media. Therefore, all laws regarding posting of agendas for open meeting law compliance have been met. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE ROLL CALL OF MEMBERS • Committee Members Present: Ross Langhurst, Marilyn Kroenke, Bob Dumke, Ben Thomas, and Mike Kroenke. • Others present: Leah Pierquet, Deputy Clerk, and Jason Grimm, a potential new member recommended by Ben Thomas. APPROVAL OF AGENDA • Motion to approve the agenda as presented by Thomas, and seconded by Dumke. Motion carried by voice vote. APPROVAL OF PRIOR TREE ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES • Motion to approve the prior Tree Advisory Committee minutes made by Dumke, and seconded by Thomas. Motion carried by voice vote. CORRESPONDENCE • None. PUBLIC COMMENT • None. REPORTS • City Forester’s Report on Public and Private Trees:  The pine tree by the Rec Center is being removed and paid for by the city, but it will bill the owner of the property on which the tree resides.  Another property owner also requested an evaluation of a tree due to a dispute between property owners. A recommendation was made to contact the DNR.  Emerald Ash Borer treatment continues, as does improvement.  Bids for stump removal are being sent out. • Shrub Subcommittee Report: The Shrub Committee had a budget of $500.00 for Franklin Park shrub expenditure. $495.00 was spent on a variety of shrubs. Tuesday, June 17th, at 6:15 PM was planned for the installation of the shrubs. • City Planters Report: All planters have been installed the week before Memorial Day. There has been more communication from volunteers this year, expressing their likes and dislikes regarding the selection of flowers for the planters. Marilyn is planning to have a coffee discussion sometime during the summer to learn what we might do differently next year. DISCUSSION ON USING WATER BAGS • There was concern regarding the use of water bags on private land vs public use. Cost is also a concern, but vandalism and damage by small animals are also possibilities. Yet, small areas or short streets with a limited number of trees, where bags could be used effectively, might be an alternative use. Respectfully Submitted, Marilyn Kroenke, Tree Advisory Committee Secretary NEXT MEETING DATE: JULY 8, 2025 @ 8:00 AM Page 2 of 2 Page 4 of 5  Summary of City of Shawano Forestry Work Activities Presented to the City of Shawano Tree Advisory Committee By Mike Kroenke‐City Forester June 10, 2025 ‐DNR Representative Patricia Linquist had presented the Tree City USA, Growth Awards to the City of Shawano and Tree Line USA to the Shawano Municipal Utilities at the Arbor Day Celebration. Patricia double‐checked with the Arbor Day Foundation and the Arbor Day materials are being sent to the DPW office at this time. ‐Coordinated with Matt Hendricks, Eddie Shepard and Mike Mahloch in writing a letter to the property owner who limbed the city white pine tree next to the City Recreation Center. Worked with Alex Peter’s crew to remove the pine tree. Alex and crew also removed hazardous trees in Alpine Shores Park as requested by Matt Hendricks. Coordinated with Big Ben’s Stump removal to take out the Recreation Center pine tree stump. Worked with city accounting to pay these bills. ‐Worked with Josh Ladwig and DPW staff for two days with trimming street and cemetery trees and removing sprouts. ‐Worked with DPW summer staff to explain new tree watering and to locate trees to be watered. ‐Marked approximately 40 stumps (mostly in Tubing Park) and worked with Mike Mahloch to send out bid notices. ‐Coordinating with Todd Haefke to treat approximately 45 ash trees this year. ‐Working on a hazardous tree removal bid with Mike Mahloch. ‐I continue to receive numerous phone calls and emails regarding tree questions and concerns. I visit by phone or by email and, if needed, visit the homeowner’s residence, and respond to tree questions and concerns. Page 5 of 5
